Tofino is a district on the west coast of Vancouver Island, in British Columbia. It is a popular tourist destination in the summer. It attracts surfers, nature lovers, campers, whale watchers, fishermen, or anyone just looking to be close to nature. In the winter it is not as bustling, although many people visit Tofino and the west coast to watch storms on the water. Close to Tofino is Long Beach, a scenic and popular year-round destination, at the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. ... read more

I started out in Victoria again. Took the bus to Langford and from there it was hitch hiking. I wanted to make it to Sproat Lake and go camping at least once while I was in Canada, I even had bought some gas for my stove so I would almost say I was prepared. Which is a big thing to say for someone who once went hiking in the mountains in jeans, doc martens, a muesli bar and no light for two days.... but that is a different story. I just had dropped my bag on the ground in front of the petrol station at Duncan and Spencer and was invited to get a ride to Nanaimo. Not really sure where I was going, my ride drove me around, dropped off her aunt in a trailer ... read more

Driving over the island was fun, the roads are winding and very up and down, Jim pulls to the side to let traffic pass as we are much slower than most. Kennedy lake is amazing, a huge lake in the centre of the island, which we passed on the way to Tofino. We arrived in time to walk about a bit and then had Sushi for dinner and then back to the camper and sleep. We parked on the street as Ben had suggested and woke to the sound of people walking about outside. Breakfast was at the Morning Loaf bakeshop and then a short walk about Tofino. We called the Tofino water taxi and caught a ride to Vargus Island for a hike across to Ahous bay and a beautiful beach. It was an amazing ... read more

Tuesday: We were up early at 6:30 to be ready for the ferry ride to Nanimo, we drove from the house up Marine drive and then had to get on the highway and return to exit 4 to catch the ferry lineup, it all worked out and Jim was able to walk to the village to grab a coffee. The ferry boarded on time and we are off to Nanimo, looking forward to seeing what the island has to offer. Left the ferry and headed through Nanimo heading to Parksville to look for my cousin Clifford. Stopped at Tim's for a cup of Tea and met a fellow who was able to give directions to the Timbersmith. Cliff was there working on a Timberframe structure and was glad to see us, we arranged to do some ... read more

Also wollen wir schauen, was an diesem geruecht dran ist.

Right, so I've got a whole day to myself. The view outside the bedroom is unreal; mountains, water, trees and not much else. So I'm going to quickly try to get some pics up and then go play outside!! ... read more

Well, after a 8 hour journey and 5 hours of sleep later, I'm safely ensconced with best bud Russ. Haven't seen each other in years, so it's kinda epic to catch up. I thought I was surrounded by beauty in Whistler--I was wrong. This place tops it times ten, and although I knew that was going to happen, it's still pretty breath-taking. Hiked down to Radar Point where stuff was all set up in WWII for imminent attack and stepped in the Pacific Ocean for the first time in my life! Pretty incredible stuff. Water was cold, and I'm beginning to wonder how I'll fare tomorrow when we go surfing. *Please to note, I will be doing this for the first time, so am not expecting any miracles from myself!* However much I love being in ... read more

Aangekomen ... read more
