Rene and I have had a fantastic time in Canada but it was time for us to go back home. We really didn't want to leave the comfort and hospitality of my kind relatives. It was great to have reunited, to have met my cousins, and to have spent quality time them. Unlike the experience we had with Canadian customs when we entered their country, the U.S. border was a much different experience. When we entered Canada, a couple of questions were asked and off we crossed(no standing in line, 2 minutes, tops), entering the U.S. however, long pedestrian line, questions, and a little search through our panniers. I guess that's a good thing, or is it? Anyway, 'just an observation... We left Surrey at about 8:30 AM, when we decided it was time to ... read more

Ahh...a nice shower, a good night sleep on a soft bed at my uncle's and aunt's house was just what the doctor ordered! It was a great relief and to boot, I met for the first time, 3 cousins of mine.. After lounging for most of the morning and after eating authentic Filipino food, we left Surrey for our next destination, Vancouver. My uncle offered to let us stay with them again on our last night in Canada so we decided to take him up on it. The plan: Stay in Vancouver for 2 nights(Sun and Monday night) so that we can really enjoy the city and afterwards, spend Tuesday night in Surrey with relatives. Rene and I will head back to the states on Wed morning and hopefully by Friday, we're sleeping in our ... read more

Well, tomorrow I'll be on a plane headed to France: guidebooks in hand, and a bag on my back. I'm feeling kind of nervous, because I haven't traveled overseas before, and I am departing on this trip by myself. I have been reading several travel guides, and I feel that they have somewhat prepared me for what lies ahead of me. I intend to do this trip as frugally as possible, cutting out any expenditures that are not necessary in order to extend my time overseas. I indend to update this blog weekly, although because this depends on my access to a computer, it may not always be regular. I look forward to sharing my stories here.... read more

There is nothing quite as frustrating (and rediculous) as waiting for over 4 hours in your car in the scorching heat only steps away from your house. That was us yesterday waiting for the ferry over to Vancouver. We arrived in the lineup just after 4:00, didn't make the 5:00 sailing, kept waiting (in the sun), didn't make the 7:00, kept waiting, finally made the 8:50 (which, of course, was very late). But worry not!! It was nice and cool on the ferry and we watched a movie in surround sound in the car on the ride over. All was good. We arrived in Surrey and slept like logs. We have now had a wonderful breakfast and are ready to hit the road! I'm hoping the little glitch of the ferry wait is the only one ... read more

Well we're putting the last minute things in our cases and making sure our homes are in order before we take off on a trip I've wanted to make for many years. Retirement is good! We're catching a ferry in Bellingham to take us to Skagway to Whitehorse and on to Dawson City and the Dempster Hwy. I'm counting the sleeps. I hope this blogging works for me I'm brand new at it. It will be a great way to keep in touch. I'll be back soon. mc... read more

I've had the most wonderful tour guides who have been taking us to all the best spots around Vancouver. Check out the Map below to see the spots we've been to which might make sense when reading this blog entry. Although if it still doesnt make sense then too bad, keep trying. Went on a little trip to Lynn's Canyon which was totally stunning, only minutes away from North Vancouver and you are in the wilderness, the lungs of the city. Stunning suspension bridge over fresh icey cold water, mossy branches, squelchy steps between the neatly maintained boardwalks. Then to West Vancouver to watch the sunset. Crescent Beach is just steps away from where we are staying, ideal for the morning constitution and to enjoy another drop of fresh seaside air. Popped over for a day ... read more
