Well folks, last time we wrote we were in Lake Louise, waiting for the sun. The sun DID come out, even though it never got warmer than 7C... We got to the crag and started climbing at 10.30 am and gave up around 4, happy and with numb hands. The rock was beautiful, tons of colour, ledges and lay backs, super solid. Enough routes to climb for weeks. After a great day of climbing, we were really excited and wanted to climb more and therefore decided to NOT go to Jasper but to drive down to Penticton and Skaha instead. After a late lunch we were so cold and snacky that we decided to pick up coffee and treats and drive down to Radium Hotsprings, which we, for some reason, thought was close by. It turned ... read more

Hi guys, I was waiting to get all of our awesome pics from this trip before i posted, but G & G & M are slackers and haven't passed 'em on yet... keep an eye out. Not entirely sure what is wrong with people in this country but they actually get excited about the prospect of driving 700+ Kms across the country to sleep in a tent beside a lake! Grant, Giovanna, Matt, Maria and I set out on a rainy & cold 6deg Thursday morning in Cow-Town headed West for Penticton, a "small" town (of about 70,000) around 400kms inland of Vancouver and 50kms North of the US border with Washington. All was well until around 30minutes into the journey when 2 cars tried to put us into the snow ditch seperating the dual ... read more

Os-o-yoo-yoo-yoo-yoo-yoo-yoos! In a fit of confusion as to how to pronounce Osoyoos's name, we've resorted to a version which sounds like a cross between a yodel and a rattlesnake. Osoyoos is a bizarre little place - a pocket desert totally unlike anything else in Canada, complete with tumbleweeds, cacti, desert landscapes, rattlesnakes and bunny rabbits! In fact, we were lucky enough to see a cute, little, cottontail bunny hopping amongst the bushes. Before you Aussies back home start thinking murderous anti-rabbit thoughts, I should explain that here, these little guys are totally natural and very much endangered. Not to mention, adorable (if you don't believe me, look at the photo). Osoyoos is in a hot, arid microclimate and it hardly ever rains. But when we arrived, not only was it cold, but it started raining! ... read more

Osoyoos, July 25, 2005 We got up early Monday morning and set out for Osoyoos after a quick breakfast of raisin bran. Roberta drove most of the way to Osoyoos, while Katherine knitted. We have been to Osoyoos many times, but always in September or October, and it is one of our favorite places to camp. We always go to the Inkameep campground, which is right on the lake, and we had made a reservation there for this one night. We always had an intuition that Osoyoos would be a zoo during the summer months, and we sure found out what a zoo it is today. There must be nearly 1000 people stuffed like sardines into the 200 or so sites here. Most people are camping in RVs, and it’s condo camping. Add to this a ... read more
