Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colours. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. - Terry Pratchett So, I am writing this on the couch, back home in New Westminster. The title is kind of a joke, since it is actually a lovely sunny morning. Not a cloud to be seen. However, it has been cloudy and rainy since we got back, and the forecast, after today, is for rain. A bit hard to take after all the sun and hot weather in Egypt and Jordan! Our flight back from London to Vancouver (about 9 1/2 hours) was pretty pleasant. We managed ... read more

See the world. It's more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories. Ask for no guarantees, ask for no security. - Ray Bradbury I can't believe we will soon be in Egypt! I have wanted to travel to Egypt since I was a child, so this trip is really a dream come true for me. We have been busy with pre-trip preparation, and now the departure day is almost here. My copies of the Lonely Planet guides to Egypt and to Jordan have been read, highlighted, post it noted, and coffee spilled-on. I've googled endlessly. Now all the planning can stop and the adventure can finally begin. Susan and I are flying to Cairo, via Frankfurt, and spending three extra days there before we join fellow travellers on Peregrine Adventures' 17 day "Classical ... read more

We've been back home for a few days now, and I'm finally starting to get over the jet lag! I think it's harder adjusting to the time difference (15 hours) when you come east. Plus it's at the end of a whirlwind 26 day holiday instead of at the beginning. Susan is back to work today and I go back tomorrow. I get to ease back into it since Friday is my day off, so I only have a 3 day week. It's going to be a bit of a shock going back to work I think. It was the same way when we came back from Turkey and London. Day after day of seeing wonderful sights, always something different, then suddenly you're sitting at your desk back in your office. What? Ah well, got to ... read more

We are calling it the Cali-Florida Adventure: departing Vancouver on Monday, September 22nd after the big birthday cruise bash on the 21st. We head down to LA for a week to visit friends, have fun, adventures and relax. Then off to Florida. A week in Disneyworld and Universal... hello Harry Potter... then we relax (?) in Westin where both Marilyn and I will visit with friends dating back to - wait for it - high school. So, for now, we are sourcing free entertainment, maps of local destinations we are going to frequent and previewing a bit of history of the areas - a favourite past-time of mine. Thus far, LA will consist of visits with Tracey and Brian and Bill and Clemente the wonderful folks we met on our cruise in 2013. We are so ... read more

Well, we're on the countdown now. Two weeks to go. We are getting very excited! I am practicing with the iPad mini keyboard. It's so small it's a bit hard to get used to. This is just a practice entry to make sure this blogging thing will work. I've never done it before. I took a couple of pictures on our camera, used the new cable to transfer them to the ipad, now I'll see if I can attach them to this entry. We've got the necessary visas, and booked various tours before and after the tour. In case you didn't know, we are on Intrepid Adventures 18 day tour "Best of Cambodia and Vietnam". We start in Bangkok, where we have a couple of extra days. The tour ends in Hanoi, where we have one ... read more

Note: I am recreating this travel blog in 2017, based on my trip journal and memories. I really enjoy re-reading my previous two travel blogs so I wanted to be able to do the same for this Turkey trip. We are incredibly excited about our first major overseas trip! We leave tomorrow, flying from Vancouver to London, then on to Istanbul. Istanbul sounds so exotic, and we will be so thrilled to be there. We originally booked a trip to Egypt and Jordan, but the Arab Spring intervened, so we have decided to go to Turkey instead. My parents went to Turkey a number of years ago, and really enjoyed it. We are spending a few days in Istanbul, then joining Peregrine Adventures' "Treasures of Turkey" 15 day trip. This will be the first time we ... read more

Just one more month until we hit the road again. Can't wait. We are off to Mexico. Meeting up with a caravan in Ajo, Arizona on October 25 or 26th, then heading down and should arrive in LaPenita on November 1st. There are so many good causes in Mexico for our town, our school kids, our mamas recovering from breast cancer and our old people that are desperate for glasses. Please see the list below: ITEMS TO BRING DOWN While some items can be purchased in Mexico, others are very hard to buy or very expensive. RVers are lucky in that we can bring things with us you can't get on a plane. We have been so fortunate to help and give pleasure to so many. We need people to bring items that are not easy ... read more

If anyone one of you has a father you would like to visit and wouldn't mind accompanying Evan let me know. Evan pays for you!! and he's not all that bad!! You would need some Evan lessons but I can do that. We are attending a Family Reunion in Edmonton on June 19th and would really like to have Evan take part. Also, a lot of people are saying they are not getting this blog. Send me a quick email, schnurr@shaw.ca if you receive and can open this publication. Thanks Nancy... read more
