We had a restful nights sleep even though I kept smelling skunks due to the fact we sleep with our bedroom windows open. I hate to admit my naïveté but my husband explained to me that it wasn't skunks that I was smelling but it was the neighbors next door partaking in some marijuana smoking. I told him that it didn't smell like any I had smelled before. I truly thought it was a skunk. Oh well, to each his own. We just closed the window until they went to bed or passed out, whichever Came first. ? When we checked out in the morning we asked the clerk if we should exchange some money here or wait until we got into Canada. He suggested that we do it here rather than in Canada and since it was a Saturday he told us to go to the Fred Meyers. That was perfect as we needed some groceries too. We took off to find the frickin' Freddie's (right Darrell! Hahaha!) to try and exchange change some cash. There was a Credit Union inside the FM and so we go up to the teller and tell her what we want to do. She
Canadian Border
Here is the line at the Border. Not too bad. ? asks if we are members. We of course say, "No, we are from California." She then proceeds to tell us that she cannot do anything for us and that we will have to go to a Tellex. What the heck? Ok, so where the heck is a Tellex? "There is one inside the US Bank on Holly street", she says, like we know where that is. I ask if it is open on Saturday. "It is open until 1pm." she says. I look at my watch and it is now 11am. Can you please give us directions since we are from CALIFORNIA and don't know this town. "Of course", she says and then she takes about 10 minutes trying to print out a map for us. I truly wanted to hop over the counter and goggle map it myself. I thanked her politely while Don asked in a nice tone as to why they couldn't exchange money for out of state customers since money was money as I was walking out the door saying lets go. ?
We finally got our money and got on our merry way. Our wait at the Border crossing was about 25 minutes. I was all prepared with our passports, Karlie's shot records, and no fruits, pork, chicken, or eggs. We did have some vegetables but we ate all of the Fresno State corn we had bought before leaving town for lunch in the parking lot because we weren't going to let them take it if we couldn't take veggies across. When we got up to the booth we got a really nice young gal. She just asked for our passports and where we would be traveling. We told her Alaska. She asked about how long we would be gone and if we had any fruit or alcohol. We said no. Then she asked if we had any firearms. We said no. She then walked to the back of the truck, came back handed us our stuff at which time we told her we had a dog and asked if she would you like to see her papers. She said sure. She looked at them and said have a great time. We thanked her and took off. It was easy peasy. I was stressed out for nothing. I told Don we didn't have to eat all that danged corn! Tonight we are going as far as Hope, B.C. Staying at Wild Rose RV Park. Happy Fathers Day to all you dad! ???
