See Dad, Alison was driving "carefully".
Hallo all, this past weekend Karen, Alison and Lynore went on "retreat" to Dancing Light Cottage on Salt Spring Island. It was a chance to get away and re-connect with each other. Dad and Mom had many words of wisdom and advice before we went away and this is a pictoral testimony to show them that we followed all of that advice...... In true Melville sisters style, we composed a poem (this time a haiku) to summarize our time together:

Gentle deer come by
Knitting, wine, scrabble and cheese
Sisters' time, peaceful

Most quoteable quote for the weekend comes from Karen, "The thing is...... sometimes, I can be quite intelligent". How about those track pants, Karen?

P.S. 2006 Pinot Blanc (Salt Spring Vineyards) pairs very nicely with a pepper chevre (Salt Spring Island Cheese), a port blue (Moonstruck Organic cheese), and french connection olives (Salt Spring Island Cheese) all with a baguette from EMBE bakery in Ganges. Enjoy.....

In three short days, we became "regulars" at the Tree House Cafe. The food was delicious and while the cafe is small, if you have to sit outside they provide you with cosy blankets.

The sign said to "turn around here"..... so being Melvilles, we turned around there.

Each day, when we arrived home from our outings, we were greeted by many baby deer and their moms. They were so tame and not bothered by us at all. At times, they would come over to the window and watch as we knit and drank our afternoon tea.

The nose of Karen's kyak with Alison and Lynore in their "tandem" in the distance. We hired a guide for a couple of hours who gave us a quick crash kyaking course and then took us around Fulford harbour. It was a beautiful, calm day.

We were fortunate to catch the last day of the Saturday Market in Ganges. Karen showcases our squash that was later turned into our dinner.
