July 6 – Day 8

We are up early this morning and on the road from Fort Steele to the Great Canadian Barn Dance. The Rockies again impress us with their majesty. We are awestruck each time we see them anew. Our first stop is Fernie, BC at the museum but it is closed till 10 so we carry on to Alberta, where we are met by the Wheel Nuts Car Club, who serve us coffee at beautiful Crowsnest Lake. We checked out a few of the historical sites and then went on a tour of the Bellevue Underground Mine because we had booked a tour for 11am. It was not necessary to prebook as there was only one other couple with us. Now we can say we have been where the sun don’t shine. It was a cool 0 degrees inside, the coolest we have been for quite a while.

Tonight we are camped at Great Canadian Barn Dance. We thought that we were going to fully serviced camp sites but have ended up with four parties sharing our campsite and power and water.

July 7 – Day 9 – Staying at Great Canadian Barn Dance

Today we went on two tours. We started with a drive to Cardston, to the Remington Carriage Museum. We had a terrific guide and the tour was much better than I ever imagined it would be. I highly recommend it and thought it was particularly appropriate for a group travelling with old cars.

The second tour was to Waterton Lake National Park. We started in the town of Waterton for lunch before visiting the falls. From there we stopped in to the Prince of Wales Hotel, a grand old place with beautiful views. Earl thinks that we should come back and stay in it. I think that we should come back and camp and go biking and hiking. We then travelled up to the Red Rock Canyon, but it was far too hot to think of doing any hiking. Throughout the park everyone was taking advantage of the cooling water in the creeks, rivers and lakes. Again, I have to say how much we enjoy the beauty

In Cardston, great guide made it interesting
of the Rockies. We returned to our campground for an ice cream social and heard news of the fires in BC. This is very distressing because many of us know people in the areas that have fires and areas that have been evacuated.

July 8 – Day 10 on to Lethbridge.

We left the campground at a leisurely pace today. There was a car show to go to in Lethbridge but we decided to go to Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump instead. It is a world Heritage site and was well the worth the visit. The campground was difficult to find. The GPS could not find it. Luckily there were signs on the highway. When we did find it, we were not quite unhooked and set up, when Bill and Phyllis, 2010 Coasters showed up at our site. They had been at the car show looking for us. It is so nice to reconnect with those that are not going on this trip for one reason or another.

The LeBaron Car Club is hosting a reception for us today at the campground clubhouse. Except for being difficult to find, the Bridgeview Campground is a very nice spot.
