The Roller Coaster
What was i thinking? On the last episode of "Matt's big adventure" our dashing hero was on his way to the west edmonton mall in search of entertainment. Lets tune in for the next installment.....
Nico and I went over to pick up Mel from her motel, and we went to the mall for the afternoon. We found the Amusement arcade and they talked me in to riding the roller coaster. It scared me silly. You get taken up to the roof then it just drops, you get taken back to the top a few more times, and dropped again. Then on the bottom part of the track you dart between all the support structures. I can say ive done it once, but never again. Nico and Mel also got on another ride that just takes you up to the roof and drops you. Not my kind of ride. But it went up and down very fast. The mall also has an ice rink and a swimming complex with some big slides; but we are yet to do these.
Thursday was Mels first rugby game (for those of you who dont know; Mel is in the New Zealand womens rugby team, and they

3...2....1...and drop are having their world cup in Edmonton). Nico and i went along to support the team. We had signs made up, air horns, and were very very vocal. Apparently we got on TV back home. We havn't had any calls from TVNZ offering us a contract yet tho. We met a lot of kiwis at the game, most of whom had been in Canada for a couple of years and had come out to see a game of rugby. I think the support will only get bigger as the tounament continues.
Friday bought on quite a late start. I went to the Elk island national park which is out of town in search of wildlife. There are quite a few walks you can do, so i started out on a track and saw no wildlife at all (only a phesent that quickly darted into the bushes). So the next day i bought Nico out with me and again we saw nothing, and all the people we met had seen nothing. Could this be just a huge scam? Had all the animals left town for the long weekend? Still a bit disheartened we got in the car and drove down
The Buffalo
The ultimate ride-on lawnmower to the next carpark area only to see a huge buffalo walking down the roadside eating grass. It was huge. We managed to get right up close to it. It was like a giant hairy lawnmower just working its way down the road. We were quite glad to have seen something, so we left feeling like we had accomplished something before leaving. Of course we could have saved ourselves a lot of walking. But it was a beautifual day for it, with temperatures in the high 20's most days since weve been here.
Friday night we had a dinner at the St Alberts Rugby club, which they had put on for the blackferns. We went along hoping to get a free feed, as you do. The night went really well. We met a candian history teacher who we educated. Aussies say "mate", kiwis say "bro". Important things like that. The NZ girls had to go back to their motel early as they had training the next day, but Nico and i stayed and ended up at some house party in downtown Edmonton. Everyone there was really friendly, much like everyone we have met. I think they find our accents amusing? Anyway they took us to a 2-stepping bar. For those of you who don't know, as i didn't initially, this is a country music thing. The music wasn't my thing but it was a great night. I got let in wearing Jandels too. That doesn't happen back home. It was a place for cowboy wanabees. There was a mechanical bull to prove their man-liness on. The pros even bought their own gloves, along with the mandatory hat and boots. Surprisingly i didn't ride it tho, I had to do my thing on the dance floor. 2 girls from the party took it upon themselves to teach me how to 2-step. As far as i recall i was awesome. Nico who was the sober driver had a different opinion however. But i like my version better. And with Jandels it doesn't hurt if you stand on a girls toes. You know "up here for thinking, down there for dancing."
Woke up 8:30am seriously hungover. Had to be checked out by 11am and my bags wern't packed. Made it to the desk 10:59. Oh Yeah. Leason learn't....probably not.
