Thursday night we arrived in Hungry Horse, Montana after a 500 mile drive. We stayed at Tamarack Lodge and Cabins. We had cabin #4. We got up on Friday morning to see the hills across the road from us covered in fresh snow. It was 47 degrees at the cabin. We drove the 8 miles to the entrance of Glacier National Park. The farther in we drove, the colder it got and the lower the snowline got until we were in it! The high temp. in Glacier that day was 31 degrees! Even though conditions were not the best, we went on a 4.5 mile hike to Avalanche Lake. It was georgeous! We toured around the rest of the day and went back to our cabin. On Saturday morning we checked out and drove around the bottom of the park to the other side. The east side is supposed to be drier, but it was cold and snowy. We had light flurries most of the day. We drove up to Two Medicine Lake and then to St. Mary's. Even though it was cold and cloudy, the views were beautiful. We spent the night at Trailhead Cabins. We had a small
cabin with a HEATER and hot shower. It was very cute.
I was very happy the next morning to see that there wasn't any snow on the car when we got up. We packed up and headed off to Waterton Lakes National Park in Canada. We crossed the border easily. We entered the park and headed over to the Prince of Wales Lodge. It wasn't open yet! Another disappointment. But a worker outside said that it was going to open at 1:00PM So we drove around the park and admired everything else. When we got back to the lodge, the sun had burned through the clouds and it was actually warm(45 degrees).
We finally left the park and headed out to Calgary. Thats where we will spend the next two nights, before heading out to Jasper National Park.
