Calgary is such a huge city, what are the odds that I have 2 relatives from opposite sides of the family living 3 minutes away from each other. My cousin David and his wife Lucie just had an adorable happy little baby boy named Quinn. I have never really had much contact with babies and I have to say Quinn was a learning experience for me! A baby is a lot of work, hard work! Lucie is an amazing mother, cook and somehow even has time to hike mountains and make her own yogurt! David and Lucie are hydro geologists and are both extremely intelligent. The second day I was staying with them we went out to Banff and climbed Tunnel Mountain with little Quinn in the baby backpack, and Sam, their wonderful dog running around! It wasn't a major climb but still enough for my first mountain climbing experience to get an idea! There was snow on the ground but it was a perfect day for a hike! After we successfully reached the top we went to a little restaurant to warm up! We ventured out to Banff Springs Hotel which looks like a castle in my opinion. It's a
strange set up, the entire first few floors are open to the public to walk around. The hotel has been around forever and so the medieval like theme fits perfectly! A few days later Lucie and I went out to Canmore and hiked up Ha Ling, which was much more of a challenge! It was super steep and quite a long trek! I think it took us two and a half hours of hiking up a 60 degree angle to finally reach the top. Once you get past the tree line the view is just amazing and you realize how high up you are. This would be terrifying for someone who is scared of heights. We reached the top and took a little break and ate some sandwiches! The whole experience is something I wish I could share with all my family and friends. The rest of the week I spent with David and Lucie I participated in their usual activities such as swimming, walks, and playing with Quinn! One of the days I went into Kensington and bought a new book and some coffee and explored that part of Calgary. I had found a site saying "free angel reading"
so I phoned up Nane and we went and checked it out. When we got there it was a dark room with little candles, rocks, and feathers on different tables spread out in the room. We each sat at a table and grabbed a deck of "angel cards". We went around the rooming "reading" each other's cards, telling the person what you were getting from the card and picture revealed, and they did the same for you. Some people did past present and future and others just a general card. A card on marriage and love came up quite a bit which is odd because there are only 2 in the whole deck. A card showing a mother and representing a mother missing her child was also shown. Miss ya too mom! I'm not sure how much of it I really believe, but it was definitely a new and exciting experience for both Nane and I! On one of my last days I met my friend Seamus in Kensington and explored the neat little shops. I can't help but wonder if Calgary will be the last time I see snow in over a year (hopefully)
