This is another day where we have changed our plans at the last minute.
Looking through the Apps for the Entertainer vouchers, we found one for another challenge room. This one is a bit closer to us and a lot easier to get to, but it is for an hour locked inside a room. It’s a kidnapped theme. Although we were pants at the one that we did at Challenge Chambers a couple of weeks ago, we did enjoy it, so we thought we would have a go at another one and see if we are any better.
Phobia Dubai is in the new Jumeriah Lake Towers area near the Marina, so yet another new area for us to explore. The metro drops us off a few hundred yards from the offices and it is a nice stroll around the many tower blocks.
Phobia rooms are a lot different to those at Challenge Chambers. Once we had paid, and redeemed our Entertainer voucher through the tablet, we were both informed there was some bad news for us. We were blindfolded and escorted into a dark room where we were handcuffed to the wall on opposite sides of the
room.
The first challenge was getting out of the handcuffs. George managed to slip out of his, so did not have to solve the puzzle that would have released him. Well you would not expect an ex police officer to need keys to exit handcuffs would you. He was then able to release the keys from a cage suspended from the ceiling to release Theresa. From there it went downhill rapidly for us. Between us, we really struggled to put any of the clues together. The guys running the show continually had to give us clues to point us in the right direction. The lights kept on going on and off to further confuse us with some strobe lights too for added effect. Be assured, this was real brain aching material.
Good news though, we did find all the details that eventually led to us being released from the room. That was a bit too much brain usage whilst on holiday. We escaped at 58 minutes in this one hour challenge. We found out afterwards that this was the hardest room in the company’s products to escape from.
We headed back to the Mall of the Emirates
on the Metro and tried out Charleys Philly steaks for lunch. They are very similar to SubWay, but better because we had an entertainer voucher for it. It was a very tasty roll and great chips to go with it too. Another buy one get one free victory.
This evening we went to the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding in Bur Dubai. Last year, we visited them for Brunch and it was both very interesting and the food very tasty. Today we visited them for the cultural dinner.
The two lads running the event were really knowledgeable and were very easy to listen to. They described the food that was laid out for us, and we all ate whilst asking questions. There was more than enough food for the seven attendees to the event, so at the end they produced boxes and lids for us all to take food away in. They also provided everyone with a kilogram bag of high quality local dates to take away. Another buy one get one free victory.
After the food, they wheeled out some typical Emirate clothes and we all got a chance to try on some traditional outfits.
With each outfit, the two lads explained when the clothing would be worn, and showed us exactly how they should be worn.
This was even very different to last year’sevent. This is something we recommend for any visitors to Dubai as it gives a good insight into Emirate life which is lacking in a lot of places in Dubai as it has grown.
Two American ladies at the event said they would like to try the metro, so they walked with us to the station and we helped them with tickets etc. Not sure they will use them again, but at least they have had the experience.
