Dubia sits right on the Persian Gulf and we had to fly right over southern Pakistan and right up to the edge of Iran to get there from Delhi.

As I looked out the window of the flight it was dry, hot desert for as far as I could see.

As we started to land in Dubai we were in what looked like a sand-storm...we couldn't see for more than 1/4 mile from all the sand and dust in the air. What we arrived to was the picture of a modern city with every comfort and luxery that one could ever hope for.

The new modern airport in Dubai is one of the nicest airports in the world. Modern shopping, EVERYTHING, it is just so nice.

Immigration and Customs was a breeze as we landed with no plans and they didn't care. We headed out of the airport and hopped in a taxi for the famous gold market in Delhi. So much new construction is going on in Dubai that there are new skyscapers being built everywhere (the tallest buidling in the world is being built at this time -- but it is really hard to get

a picture of, called the Buj Dubai).

We went throught the gold and jewery souk (market), which Jessica loved, and then sat and wrote postcards to many of you.

We then took a taxi to the beach with its amazing 7-star hotel The Burj Al Arab -- which is the world's tallest hotel. Here is also the gateway to the new islands/developments being built in the shape of a massive palm tree and the map of the world! See: or you can go to:

The beaches were beautiful and the buildings were incredible. This could really be a place you could settle down and just enjoy life! Jess and I even talked about how we could understand those westerners who wanted to live here (seriously it is such a wonderful city, we really wish we had more time to enjoy it).

We then made our way to the massive "Mall of the Emirates" -- this huge, and I mean HUGE mall has an indoor snow skiing lodge. No kidding, you can snow ski in Dubai on what looked like two great runs with a ski lift and everything. See:

There was also
sledding. We enjoyed dinner then went to the movies. We watched the Owen Wilson movie: Drillbit Taylor.

After the movie we went to Borders to look for some new books to read for our beach time in Seychelles.

Everything you would ever want is right there in Dubai. We went back to the airport and just enjoyed the shops and food. Our flight for Seychelles left at 1:00 in the morning...and we are both looking forward to enjoying some down time on the perfect beaches.

This seven star hotel is one of the very impressive things about Dubai. We both thought this would be a great place to stay.

Here is a picture of the ski slopes in Dubai (Mall of the Emirates). It was held at around 26 degrees (-3 C) and was very impressive.
