Pumped it up and prayed it would last to lunch. After three beautiful mornings, it was showering so didn't want to hang around. Arrived at lunch with tyre mostly deflated. Last 20 kms very squishy feeling and sound. Again pumped it up and road to tonight's hostel. Thankfully got me here. Changed tube whilst waiting for room to become available. Could find no evidence of cause in the tyre, either on the outside ... read more

AMASYA REST DAY 2. 27 September, 2016. Today I needed to change the rear tube on the bike, clean away the mud from a few days ago, and take care of the drive chain. Afterwards walked up the mountain to a cafe near the Sultans' tombs. The views over the town were spectacular, and reinforced my thoughts that it is a town reminiscent of Florence, same earthy colours, mountainous back drop, river flowing through its centre, Mosques instead of Churches and a great atmosphere, at a fraction of the cost of the Italian city. Wandered back after consuming fried ice cream and two Turkish coffees. One of the benefits of cycling is the weight loss, which enables me to then eat what appeals! Checked on the tyre, semi soft, despite checking the tyre for sharp spikes. ... read more

Geo: 37.0391, 27.4302 Gün 05 günlerden Pazartesi: Gemimiz yine Asım Kaptan.. rahat bir yolculuktan sonra Bodrum'a vardık . Perez bize bir güzellik yapıp, kendisinin yararlandığı "kurtlar vadisi" minibüsümüzü liman kapısına getirmiş. Doluştuk, bizi otelimizin kapısında bıraktılar . Öpüşüp kokuşup ayrıldık . Yarın sabah Perez Milano 'ya dönüyor.. Yusuf ve Nino iki gün daha kalacaklar .. Otelde biraz dinlendik.

Road Condition: river valley- ok, new work- goodWeather: cool until after river canyon ( 5 hrs later)-10c max; after lunch- MILD 15c Time in Saddle: 5:43:57 Av Speed: av. 19.6 kph. Av Cadence. 68RpmElevation: 1800 m up; 1000 m downCalories burned : > 5500 We climbed all morning after Yusufeli, 6000 feet up. Yusufeli, was an interesting small town, perched in a river canyon between high rock walls. It rained periodically yesterday so exploring town was tricky between rain squalls. Today the scenery was again beautiful. We may have been the last TDA riders to travel this route as another dam on the river is nearing completion and the dam water will cover most of the roads ... read more

Araf durumu yani..... read more

Geo: 37.0391, 27.4302 Gün 01 günlerden Perşembe Yolculuk iyi geçti ve tam saatinde Bodrum 'a yanaştık .. Para bozuldu.... ben de inadına,... read more

RpmElevation: 1014 m up; 1501 m downCalories burned : > 4500 Left Kars following the river valley, very scenic, but as it was in constant shade, the initial 15km was ridden in about 2c, very cold after past weeks, felt my hands becoming ice-blocks despite being in long fingered gloves. It warmed up mildly once we got into the sun, but with a mild headwind, it was still quite cool. The scenery all day was very appealing, a mix of woodland, cattle and sheep pasture, bubbling Creeks and small agricultural villages. The camp has green grass, is ... read more

KARS. REST DAY 2. 19 September,2016 Kars has many cheese shops and fresh honey stores. Cheesemaking, using cows' milk, was introduced during the Russian era 1875-1925. Bee keeping and honey production has been an industry here for a Millenia. The cheeses are large wheels of a tasty cheddar style. A cheese is also made using honey, I am still on the hunt! Like elsewhere along the Silk Road, there are many sweet cake stores. In Kars, the specialities are varieties of Baklava, (honey). Decided that I like Kars, it has attractive parks and buildings, a fantastic coffee house and some tasty food, and bustling city centre with promenading families in the evenings. Travel plans for the week ahead have been posted, 850 kms+, 7 kms of climbing and 9 kms of descent in 7 days, with ... read more
