Troy, the mythical city that existed. Quite a different experience to the other ancient sites we have seen. More overgrown, making it much harder to see the layers of development of the site.Mostly walls and trenches including Schliemann's trench from which he took the jewelry. Most of the artifacts are in Berlin or in Russia (the Germans say the gold is in the Pushkin museum stolen during the occupation of Berlin)
Dinner on the Dardanelles in Çanakkale after a walk around the town to the market full of war themed tourist tat, past lots of gold in the jewelry shops and the Trojan horse donated after the movie was made, now erected on the esplanade. Lovely sea bass shared by the group to celebrate Fred's birthday.
