Kusadasi:Kusadasi traditionally was a minor port frequented by vessels trading along the Aegean coast. The port is situated inside a small bay with the peninsula of Guvercin Ada sticking out into the ocean at one end and the mountain of Kaz Doay at the other end. It is 95 Km south of Yzmir, the regions largest metropolitan centre. This port was always overshadowed by Ephesus which during Roman times was the second largest city in the Roman Empire after Rome and therefore the world. Today it is a tourist destination with many cruise ships coming each year for people wishing to visit Ephesus. Ephesus which was once a sea port is now situated 6 miles away from the sea. We are only in port for a short time today arriving at 7:00 a.m. and leaving for Istanbul at 12:30 p.m. The local Turkish people are very friendly especially the shopkeepers they try to entice you inside at every opportunity, promising no hassling, but once you get inside it is very hard to get back out. Naturally we spent up again bought some clothes, genuine Rolex and Tag Heuer watches, a wall plaque and 14 elephants. The highlight

Whilst in Kusadasi port there were another six cruise ships visiting at the same time, nice photo of Colleen heading towards the Dawn Princess on the right.
for me was meeting up with the Ex Australian cricket captain, my uncle Bob Simpson. Bob and his wife have been on the cruise since Sydney, he tends to keep pretty much as he does not like to be hassled, however I did manage to get a photo taken with him, unfortunately I look as though I am sucking on a lemon. Very nice man though, he asked me if I was Scottish, I should have had a photo of me in my kilt to show him.

Tonight we went and saw two shows the first one was by a performer by the name of Daniel Zafrani, he is a French mime comedy artist. His show was like something we had never seen before, his miming impersonation of an Ostrich was perfect. The curtain opened up to him hatching out of an egg, amazing stuff and the rest of his performance was great.

The second show was by a gentleman by the name of Jay J. Downs, and his Yakety Sax. His claim to fame is that he was in the pop group called the Foundations, “Build me up Buttercup” and he was the man who

played the sax in the Benny Hill show, he was not too bad but nowhere near as good as the mime artist.
