This morning I woke up feeling sick, so I stayed back at the place we were staying and had a quiet day. The others went for a walk to the beach, but we were going rockclimbing that afternoon so I wanted to be feeling better for that. So at 4 we headed out to the outdoor rockclimbing wall, which is beside the river which runs through the mountains. It is dry during summer though. The couple from our tour chose to go fishing but the rest of us did the rockclimbing. The guides set up two areas for us to trying climbing, I did the harder one first because I knew I'd be tired doing whichever one I did second. I managed to get up both, have quite a few scrapes and bruises to show for ... read more

The next day we wound up spendıng breakfast talkıng to Robbıe (from Vancouver) and Mehmet (Turkısh) who had met on the bus and were stayıng at our hostel. They wanted to go horseback rıdıng and 80 and I thought that was a great ıdea so we bought three dollar cowboy hats and went off to fınd horses. We got an hour long tour of 'love valley' whıch ıs a beautıful valley full of rock formatıons that look lıke penıses. My horse turned out to be a racıng horse so ıt kept tryıng to take the lead (whıch caused some ınterestıng ınteractıons between my horse ad the lead horse). After we went back to the hostel and showered (you shower about 4 tımes a day here due to the heat) and had dınner. Mehmet was goıng the ... read more

It was our last day at the Tree houses in Olympos and I made the most of it by doing nothing all day! I just hung out in the lounges, read, and played backgammon (I can’t get enough!) It was a nice change of pace, I mean don’t get me wrong it’s amazing to see lots of old things and to have new experiences, but having a day just to relax and peace out was well worth it. Marcus went with Hasan to a nearby beach, and Taylee and Brett went Scuba diving that morning, so Bex, Fatih and I just enjoyed ourselves. I got to talk to one of Faith’s friends, Emre, on the phone who is also a tour guide for Fez Travel, and he was a few days behind us in Kusadasi with ... read more

I got up early since I didn’t sleep well and the bed was not very comfy. I like getting up early since it is very peaceful and I enjoy the time to myself. Kadir’s is such an interesting place, with random chickens and peacocks (who were in full display) running around, and fires in the middle of the dance floor of the bar, I felt like I was really someplace different. I was just playing on my computer and sitting on one of the loungers when Marcus woke up and it was perfect timing since breakfast was just getting started! Sadly there still wasn’t any yogurt, but it was a good Turkish breakfast overall. We had to eat and be ready at 9 since we all we had decided to go sea kayaking today! Dora had ... read more

This morning we got up and started our drive to Olympos, a backwoods town in the valley of the mountains. On the way there we stopped outside of Kas to go swimming. I thought it was odd that we were stopping randomly in the middle of our drive to go swimming, until I saw exactly where it was. Before it was announced that this particular area was where we were swimming I was already drooling over the water. As we drove along the coast we could look down and see the water as it clashed against the rocks below, but at one point there was a nice beach and the water was a beautiful deep blue, but right where it hit the beach it was an amazing light blue. It is very difficult to describe; we ... read more

So having spent the previous day cruising around Fethiye Bay and it's twelve or so islands, and with perfect weather predicted for at least the next four days, it was with great excitement that I bid farewell to my hosts of the previous five days, Gokan and Ahmet, and headed downstairs to wait for my ride to the harbour. And there I waited... for about forty-five minutes in all... before a minivan finally arrived to take me down to the harbour - though having missed my transfer altogether the day before, I was already well aware that pick-up times in Turkey are 'approximate only'! So off down to the harbour (saturday May 7th) I went to meet my thirteen fellow passengers, the three crew members who would be looking after us, and the boat (Sevi 5 ... read more

So….. we sort of got stuck in Olympus. After getting over the first night in the bird explosion dorm at grungy Kadirs, we knew we were happy at Bayrams Tree houses thanks to a wonderful gay bartender from California named Tyler, a chef who made sure I had lots of gluten free food, amazing Turkish staff, and for $17 a night a clean and warm dorm, breakfast and dinner. We had planned to stay 3 nights there, but then we had a couple days of crap weather and felt we had to give it a few more days when the sun came out. Every day we kept meeting new cool people, and suddenly 3 days had turned into 7… and it was Saturday night again. We had met some cool London girls and a couple from ... read more

More nice scenery as we headed back towards the sea - Turkey is beautiful! Olympos was really unusual scenery-wise - we were staying in a valley surrounded by steep tree-covered mountains (Jurrasic park-esque), with a mix of wild flowers, cactuses, and forest. A ten minute walk down the river (through the ruins of Olympos) opened up to a beach where I spent most of the day sun-bathing :) Accommodation for everywhere round here was tree houses (or more accurately - huts on stilts next to trees). We stayed at Saban Tree Houses and had the best food weve had so far - amazing home-cooked food included each night. Went to the Chimera Flame last night - a mountain with lots of natural gas eternal flames dotted about on it which involved another many-stepped climb (with steps ... read more

I arrived in Olympus after a very long overnight bus and a 2 hour transfer on a smaller local bus… I was staying at a bungalow/tree house place. I got a bungalow which is a small wood cabin where the shower and toilet are one square and the sheets on the bed are from 1970 (holes and all). I have been sick for a few days, so once I got in my room – I slept until 3pm. After my 5 hour nap, I took a walk through the ruins to get to the beach. It hit me – I am really sick! I didn’t even want to be on the beach I felt so crappy. I headed back to my wood shack for a shower (took about 15 minutes for the water to heat up) ... read more
