The Beautiful Beach outside of Kas The Beautiful Beach outside of Kas The Beautiful Beach outside of Kas

We got to go swimming here!
This morning we got up and started our drive to Olympos, a backwoods town in the valley of the mountains. On the way there we stopped outside of Kas to go swimming. I thought it was odd that we were stopping randomly in the middle of our drive to go swimming, until I saw exactly where it was. Before it was announced that this particular area was where we were swimming I was already drooling over the water. As we drove along the coast we could look down and see the water as it clashed against the rocks below, but at one point there was a nice beach and the water was a beautiful deep blue, but right where it hit the beach it was an amazing light blue. It is very difficult to describe; we asked Fatih and Hasan what made the water change color right there, they said it was minerals leeching from the rocks (but we all joked that it’s probably left over chemicals from the hotels up the road). We got down to the water and it was freezing! Marcus jumped in first and then so did I, you had to keep swimming just to keep warm,

but it was amazing views in beautiful waters. About 10 minutes after we jumped it Brett did as well, and another 10 minutes after that Bex and Taylee joined us. They said that they were hesitant to get in the water because it looked cold, but that it couldn’t be too bad since we had been in for so long. They were sure surprised when they stuck their toes in the water!
We got out and dried off and headed off to lunch inside the city of Kas. We had about 45 minutes to eat and explore before we had to be back on the bus. Marcus and I wanted to eat with Fatih and Hasan at the hole in the wall Turkish restaurant (since those are usually sooo good) but the others wanted hamburgers. So we went our separate ways. Marcus and I had a great lunch (Marcus had his favorite – Iskender) with Fatih and Hasan, and Dora joined us after she went exploring. Then Marcus, Dora, and I went exploring together and had a great time, Kas is really a beautiful city!

We stopped one last time in a city that was known for its oranges.

This city is known for its oranges
There were orange trees that lined the streets and you could see oranges growing on them! We got out of the bus at a street vendor selling fresh squeezed orange juice, it was 2 TL each for a glass of juice that we all saw squeezed right in front of our eyes, it was definitely the best orange juice I have ever had.

Then it was back on the bus! This time the next stop is our final destination for the next 3 nights. We arrive in Olympos where the accommodation is in the form of tree houses! The official name of our hotel is Kadir’s Treehouses and it is a very cool place. The feel is almost like you are on a remote island since Olympos is situated in the valley between the mountains, the beach is about a 15 minute walk away, and there are ancient ruins along the way. They also offer activities like rock-climbing, kayaking, scuba diving, canyoning. When we arrived we all set our stuff down and walked up the steps to the tree house bar and received a free drink! There the manager told us all the things we needed to know about

Kadir’s, including the fact that the treehouse bar closed at midnight so people could sleep, but the bull bar that was described as being down the street was open until around 4 in the morning. Breakfast and dinner were free and to let them know if we wanted to do any of the activities. Then they set us loose to find our treehouse cabins!
Mine was called Aaladdins Cave, Marcus got Tim Horton, Dora had Love Shack, Fatih had Emu Hut, and this went on; all of them had a different name! Upon finding our rooms we each took a peek inside and saw that again the showers didn’t have any walls and if you didn’t close the lid to the toilet it would just spray into it. Marcus even had an electrical outlet in his bathroom (don’t get shocked)! Overall the rooms were nice. We all met back up and went out to find the beach, which we were told we should buy a card to access the beach and that if we all went together on one then it would be cheaper. Beach access was 3 TL each time, so we all walked down and decided to wait to buy our passes until the next day. We walked back up and stopped at a little outdoor café and ordered a few Efes (they were 2 TL cheaper than the ones at Kadir’s) and sat on one of the raised platform loungers and relaxed and played backgammon. I warned Marcus that I had only played a few times, and I had not really learned how to set up the board yet. But we played and had a great time. I met another little Kitty friend and everyone was afraid of it giving them a disease so it wasn’t welcome on our lounge.
We got back to the treehouses just in time for the free dinner! We all eat together then go up to the treehouse bar and play more backgammon, it turns out that I had been setting up the board wrong, and I think I now have the right way to do it down pat! I wasn’t feeling very good so I called it an early night. After I went to sleep I was woken up (I usually could sleep through a tornado) by the party from the Bull Bar, it sounded like there was the biggest party coming from wherever the Bull Bar was located, and it went on until around 4 am. So I didn’t get much sleep and it was freezing in my room, and we were only given one small blanket. Overall a great first day and a horrible first night at the treehouses, good thing we didn’t have very much planned for the next couple of days because I was going to be dragging in the morning!
