Every day here is so glorious, we feel lucky to wake to sunshine everyday especially when we look at the weather reports for the UK. Woolly says – My tan is coming along nicely and I feel in the best of spirits. The last of the paperwork is now heading to customs so our belongings might actually be joining us soon. I found out lots about the water system in Turkey this week after we had been told that one of tanks on the roof was leaking – not the news we wanted. But it did give me an opportunity to explore the top of the building. All of the apartments have two big tanks and a solar panel so instant hot water is assured. Our bottom tank had developed a leak round the seal, I ... read more

And so we sit and wait, our container is still at the docks and having sent a variety of documents and paperwork off…… Woolly says – What Jo means is that having sent the documents and paperwork to the wrong address customs are now trying to find the missing envelope – she is such a silly. Our week has passed with dips in the pool and sea and an occasional cup of coffee or ice cream on the harbour watching the huge rigged party ships weaving back into port with their green hewed tourists on board. Throughout the day and night we hear the calls to prayer, it’s a soothing sound, and as first one Imam then another and another joins in the call the sound streams across the buildings and flows down the streets. Mosques ... read more

Having achieved a few things in the last few days, notably a PO Box (mail seems to be rare in Turkey, utility bills are put in a communal area and junk mail doesn’t seem to be a factor), this is for security as most buildings seem to have broken mail boxes or none at all so for the princely sum of 12.50 Lira (approximately £4.20 GBP) a year we can encourage everyone to not only email us but go snail mail as well. Woolly says – I don’t want anyone posting me snails!!! I enjoyed our visit to the Notary office to sign the paperwork for clearing our belongings at customs. It was chaos, everyone was chattering away in Turkish and not seeing any form of queue we waited for a while before just heading to ... read more

The last week has flown past and our days have taken on a new way of living….. Woolly says – fruit and yoghurt on the balcony for breakfast is a marked difference to life in the UK, followed by a swim in the pool and although I’m not a lover of water (especially where baths are concerned) I’m quite enjoying a paddle every day. It is very hot and sleeping at night involves fans or air con. Many of our neighbours sleep on the balcony which is a wise choice. Ian and I bought Jo a fan so it’s easy to know where she is, just follow the sound of whirring as she moves around the apartment towing it behind her like an IV trolley. I am starting to learn more about the culture we have ... read more

We left the Wonder of the World behind us with regret but had decided to travel further on for our night’s stay. Off through the mountains we roared with Ollie lapping up the miles and Woolly lapping up any liquid that came his way. With temperatures so high we are consuming vast amounts of water and juice every day, so many vitamins should be good for us! Woolly says – It was a lovely drive and with less cars and trucks on the road now there was no stopping Ollie. We were Supertramping through the miles and although we had certainly taken the Long Road Home it is definately worth it. Taking the turning to Pamukkale gave us an instant change of scenery as the landscape became more of a swirl of hills, looking like the ... read more

Woolly has packed his trunk; he made so much mess and left everything on the floor so we had to repack it! We have come to our last hours in Turkey (for now!). Last night started out well. Ian and I went out for a meal, we were met with chaos when we got back! Woolly says – HOME ALONE – it’s the last night, what did they expect!!!!!! Ok have to admit I might have gone over the top, probably shouldn’t have nicked all of ian’s beer and Jo’s nuts! and as for drinking all of the wine out on the balcony!!!!! I think I got shouted at when they got back! But for some reason my memory’s a little fuzzy! We were not impressed and needless to say Woolly is grounded. BAD MAMMOTH!!! Woolly ... read more

Sitting proudly on the peninsula of Alanya sits the castle. With the sun shining and not a cloud in the sky we set of to explore. Although possible to walk up to (quite a big walk!) Woolly refused to walk up and down so we picked up a taxi which took only a few minutes to arrive at the castle gates. Woolly says – I’m sure all this walking isn’t good for me! It was a fun ride to the top going round the bends at speed being hardened to the mountain roads now it was a doddle! The view was spectacular, looking at Alanya spread out below us with clear blue seas and the castle in front of us, worth a photo or two. Paying 10TL (approximately £4.10 GBP) to enter we walked up the ... read more

With some clouds in the sky and a light drizzle of rain we continued on our route back to Alanya. Having looked at the map we spotted the location of Syedra. Woolly says – this looked like a really good idea, WRONG, turning off the main road we headed towards a mountain in the distance. With the road becoming a dirt track, narrower and narrower with a huge drop down the mountainside Ian tried to keep going, it proved impossible and with Jo clinging to her seat and me clinging to Jo we managed to turn round and descend back to normality and less terrifying driving conditions. It’s a shame we couldn’t make it to the Syedra ruins as it’s believed to date back to the 7th century but even an intrepid Mammoth has his breaking ... read more

Another glorious day in Alayna so we decided to take Woolly to the beach on the other side of the castle – Kleoprata Beach. Woolly says – I’ve heard lots of good reports on this beach, it was slightly windier than the Keykubat side (no mountain to protect us from the wind) and to be fair that was the only difference, sat and chilled for a bit before Jo and Ian took me to the Damlatas Cave – WOW! I think Woolly enjoyed this! Woolly says – It was amazing, as we walked into the caves the temperature became very humid, wonderful for asthma and bad chests. I was greeted by the site of HUGE stalactites and stalagmites (Jo explained that tites go down, not sure why Ian laughed!), with subtle lighting I was able to ... read more

Waking to glorious sunshine is always a good way to start the day. With fluffy clouds in the sky and only a light breeze we took off for the beach. Woolly says – hang on what about the red toilet? Oh yes, Woolly tell the world about the red toilet and your day on the beach. Woolly says – Jo and Ian took me out for tea last night, we found the Flash Restaurant and Bar url=http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g297961-d941704-Reviews-Flash-Alanya_Turkish_Mediterranean_Coast.htmlhttp://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g297961-d941704-Reviews-Flash-Alanya_Turkish_Mediterranean_Coast.html Jo had fish which she said was pretty good, not my cup of tea as it still had its head on!! Ian let me share his lamb skewer which was ok, not the best but ok and considering the meals with a couple of beers came to 57 TL (Turkish lira) approximately £20 it was p... read more
