nuts
the lady that sold me nuts I’m standing in front of the nuts at the farmers market. There is sacks and sacks full of a wide variety of nuts. I am wanting to buy less than a kilo of nuts that look like Cheetos. However, the vendor doesn’t understand. No English. I know how to say I need coffee and beer in Turkish and the basic numbers, but that’s it. I don’t have to a clue to ask for just a small bag of orange, puffy Cheeto looking nuts. A man, who looks Turkish to me, walks past, sees my dilemma and says, “Do you speak German?” I tell him just a little. He says my German is good enough to say I don’t speak German and asks me what I want. I tell him
He rambles quickly to the Turkish woman nut vendor and next thing I know I have a whole bag of nuts, not just the Cheeto ones and the man says pay her two lira. Two? I question. I have a grocery sack of nuts and for less than $1.10 American. He assures me that’s the correct price, I pay the woman jolt. He follows me and asks if I want to
smoke. I decline. He tells me only German and Italian women have red hair and I don’t look Italian.
I think they both were nuts. I ran faster.
Yesterday at a mini-market, I had two local young girls look at me an giggle. A lot. Good thing my feelings are not hurt easily. They come over point to my hair and give me a thumbs up an say “super.” They then took out their cell phones and took a picture of me.
Gosh, all this attention is really bring me out of my shell. I suppose describing me as being shy would be total nonsense, unless of course you yourself is obnoxious and the center-of-attention of kind of person. And then yes, I’m shy.
And so it goes.
In other news, I read in the Turkish newspaper (in English, my Turkish is not that good yet) that Ukraine just passed a new law that you must change your clothes daily. Serious. Its now unlawful to wear the same shirt twice in a row. I am not making it up. However, the article didn’t say anything about changing your underwear. Isn’t that nuts??!!?
Okay, onward
to vacation.
Today’s highlight was the ancient Greek city of Pamukkale. Remains of the city, theater and baths was impressive. Lots of leftover sculptures and ruins. Boy, those Romans sure knew how to build. They even let visitors swim in the ruins of the pool where Queen Cleopatra swam. (how do you spell her name??) And just as equally impressive was the calcium white hill sides in which again visitors get to walk but only with bare feet. I thought that was nuts as well.
Okay, and as I read on my face bookpage, I missed a blog.
I found the lost blog. It wasn’t all that witty or fun. I entitled it “and so it goes” and thus the references in this blog. So, you’ll just have to pretend you read it and understand the reference.
What I think happened was when I was told to be quite when Skyping with Kailey at 6 am I must of gotten fluster and forgot to post since I post right after talking to her. Isn’t that nuts that I post after talking??
Okay, thanks for reading and continued support.
Prost!
