We have decided that we have to do some more sightseeing, anything really other than lay on a sun-bed all day every day!! After breakfast we went to the travel agent across the street from the Voyage and booked a trip to Cos (Greece) for tomorrow and a trip to Ephesus on Wednesday.
With activities organised for the next two days, we caught the bus into Bodrum. This morning the bus drove around and around Torba until it was full and then we headed off to Bodrum. The buses really don't seem to have a set route or a set timetable - the drivers just go where they please and eventually they deliver you to their stated destination!! This morning the driver's route included a stop down at the fishing harbour where he picked up fish that he then delivered to a couple of people along his route to Bodrum.
At the bus station in Bodrum we sought out a bus that would take us to Turgutreis. This is a longer route so it was a bit more expensive at Turkish Lira 4.50 per person. It was very quiet out at Turgutreis with very few other tourists about. From
the bus station we wandered down to the harbour where all the fishing boats were moored. From there we walked around to the marina where it was all designer shops and flashy, recreational boats and yachts!!
Back along the waterfront we ran the gauntlet of the restaurant owners touting for lunch-time business before venturing into the side streets. In the side streets we were accosted by shop owners selling jewelry, clothing, shoes and souvenirs ... and one very persistent fellow who wanted to shine Bernie's shoes even though he was wearing sandals??? Maybe he actually wanted to give Bernie a pedicure?
Back on the waterfront we eventually agreed to being seated at a table on the beach. After our drinks were delivered, people were getting all excited pointing at the sky and taking photos. When we checked it out, there was a rainbow-like aura around the sun. Bernie tried to take a photo, without being really sure if that will turn out or not. We'll have to Google it one day to find out if it was a particular weather phenomenon that we saw.
We decided to have a snack on the beachfront too. Kath and Albert
shared a chicken kebab while I had a cheese pide and Bernie opted for a cheese and onion pide. After our lunch on the beach we headed back to the bus station to find a bus to take us back to Bodrum.
Back at the Voyage we filled in an hour or so before going for the last of the massages that we had booked. Yay, Betut was on again today!! She gave me a much nicer hot rock massage than I had on Saturday. When I saw that the hot rock heater was on again I almost said that I didn't want the hot rocks. I'm glad I didn't because with a different massage practitioner it was a completely different and much more pleasant experience. At one stage Betut had hot rocks lined up all down my spine while she massaged other hot rocks over my shoulders and up and down my sides. When the rocks clinked against each other I felt a bit like a human billiard table!! Bernie had a masseuse today too who he also reckons gave a better massage than the bloke.
Another night, another restaurant. This evening we tried out the fish
restaurant - Halikarnas. The al la carte restaurants have all been very nice, but I find myself eating even more at these than I do at the extensive smorgasbord in the main restaurant!! All of them bring you a starter as you sit down and then you can order an entree, soup, main course and desert. I think I have to stop being a little piggy and leave out some of the courses!!
Maybe Bernie's luck has deserted him as I won at Jo tonight!! With an early start in the morning we only played the one game.
