We sat in our hotel room most of the time and waited for the evening so we could go to the City Centre shopping mall. Downstairs in the lobby we talked to the reception who ordered a cab for us and as they said for a special price, Ha Ha. So nice you can talk a different language for I mentioned to Liz that the person behind the desk could be a brother of Obama. Must have been mentioned before, for he smiled and understood what I said. The cab took us to the centre of Doha. Stepping out, you feel dwarfed by the enormous tall buildings that surrounds you. For a moment you feel lost. You need time to take it all in. Than the moment arrives you want to take photos so you never ... read more

Yes we are on the go again and as first stopover we landed in Qatar. We have not been here before and flying with Qatar airways we thought it was a good idea to see where in a few years time the World soccer is taking place. We landed early in the morning and found out we have to take the stairs to leave the plane. A bit old fashion but that could improve in next few years. At the Immigration we had to buy a Visa for around $35 per person to enter the country. A taxi took us to the Hotel not that far from the Airport where we arrived at 3.30 a.m. Not many people there so we were quickly ushered to our room where had a coffee and made plans for the ... read more

My first ever stop in the Arabian Peninsula would be the city of Doha in Qatar. Over the last few years, Doha has been growing almost exponentially and has a massive expat population. When the crude was flowing, this country could spend money at will. My Qatar airlines flight arrived in the early afternoon and I immediately got a visitor visa on arrival. This was technically a long layover so may as well go out and explore a new place. Hamad International airport is one of the most advanced airports in the world since opening a few years back, and had everything I could of imagined. They even had international banks throughout so I wouldn't have ATM issues like I've had in many other places. I found the airport bus heading into the city. Another traveller ... read more

I was not supposed to visit Doha this year...but plan changed! It was only a year ago that we spent a great day with Tiffany and Leslie here on our way to Georgia. This time the trip was not planned, but still a great day. I arrived on a short 20 minutes flight with British Airways. No time for any food....that was in the basic lounge, but they have nice bubbles! Once in Doha, the bus network has improved...and now, it takes only 25 minutes to go from the airport to the door of the W hotel, for less than 3usd return...a bargain, why take a taxi! Last year I wanted to bring the kids to do some dune 4x4...but the price was way too steep. Today, I ask the concierge if they had a car ... read more

Geo: 25.2819, 51.5175Breakfast in the room again. We were ready to go early before the ship was ready to disembark the passengers . We watched outside from the deck on the starboard side as the crew was getting the ship ready putting up the staircase leading off the ship. The locals laid out a long red carpet that they connected with the end of the ship's gangway. There were a number of people in traditional dress watching and waiting for us. When we were finally allowed to leave, we had to go through customs and immigration in the seaport terminal. They checked all bags through an x-ray machine, but there was no metal detector for the people. I find it interesting that different places use different combinations of screening devices for security. (So far, the highest ... read more

5 rano i następny lot mając o godz.

Doha: a hazy mix of dust and concrete settled on the edge of the desert by the sea. Whether you look at it from the sky or the ground, it's a gradient mesh of pastel blues and browns with the occasional colour pops from tourist buses and taxis. And it is so very hot, a muggy heat where the sun is constantly battling with the thick dust clouds and both are winning as the humans sweat over burning concrete underneath. We weren't even meant to be there. Our flight was cancelled in Manchester and the following one was due five hours later. Because of the incompetence of the staff who waited until the flight was due to take off before they started to process some of us through, this flight was over three hours late. I've ... read more

Mieliśmy przyjemność lecieć liniami Qatar Airways z lotniska Chopina do Doha, następnie do Perth i docelowo do Sydney (ostatni odcinek australijskimi liniami Qantas). Nic prostszego! Na lotnisku należy zamiast do strefy ‘Transfers’ udać się od razu do ‘Arrivals’ i bezpośrednio u urzędnika wykupić ważną 30 dni wizę turystyczną (ok. 100zł). Z lotniska do centrum jechaliśmy ok. 20 minut autobusem miejskim.
