This morning we decided to give the Israeli train system a try for our journey to Tel Aviv. It's fairly simple with mostly one north-south route. If the busses are usually 25% filled with military, the train must have been 75% filled with them. It's weird sitting with a bunch of guys carrying automatic rifles. The train was overfull, smelly, and cold. We should have taken the bus.
Tel Aviv seems like a great cosmopolitan city. It's easy to find good lodgings, food, and transportation...3 critical components to a relaxing time. We bought an all day bus pass for $4 and went to Tel Aviv University to visit the Museum of the Jewish Diaspora, or a museum of what Jews were up to from 76 to 1948.
Other than that, we just rode the bus down to the old city of Jaffa and walked around some historic neighborhoods. The public beach stretches at least a few kilometers from Jaffa northward. We had a pricy Thai meal that was appropriately delicious.
Oh yeah, we also watch "The Taking of Pella 123" starring Denzel and Travolta. Decent movie but also a bit silly.
