I have not been looking forward to today’s journey, we are heading to Eilat down R90, an Israeli controlled road which runs through The West Bank. But first, the Roman town of Beit She’an. You can climb the hill behind the town for a great view looking back across it. We head out of Israel, and yet weirdly still in it, along Route 90. Security is tight; both on the ground and overhead, with MIGs speeding up and down the road corridor. The journey is without incident and we reach the other side of the West Bank. We know we have reached ‘civilisation’ when we spot a McDonalds in an oasis. We reach the ancient town of Masada, which lies on a plateau above the Dead Sea, where 1000 Jews attempted to defend themselves against the ... read more

Well here we are in the south of Israel, We did decide to come south running close to Jordan in the Jordan Valley HWY 90. It runs through the Palestinian Authority Region but seemed safe enough as we only went through one check point and that was occupied by Israeli military. We stopped at Qunram where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. We continued south toward Ein Gedi. Seeing the Dead Sea for the first time we were suprised how blue it is. The terrain on the west side of the sea very different. You will see that on the images. Tomorrow we will go to Masada in the forenoon and bob around in that salty sea after. Here's some pictures Lowell... read more

After leaving crowded Jerusalem we headed to the Dead Sea. Britt and I have been working hard with our different programs so we both needed a get away and one with sun and floating around. The Dead Sea is over 400 meters below sea level and is 9 times more salty than the ocean. We spurlged a little and stayed in a nice resort right on the sea. It was great because now is the off season and the was really quiet during our stay. We sat on the beach and around the pool to recoup from Jerusalem and prepare for Jordan. The second day there was a little cloudy and windy so we decided to hike Masada. Masada was the last stand for a group of rebel Jews against the Roman Army. After being surrounded ... read more

Today is Rembrandt's birthday. Our little guy turns three years old. The day began with another scenic ride down route 90. This time we went south to the beautiful Dead Sea resort town of Ein Bokek. We had some spa treatments booked at the Shizen Spa at Daniel Resort. First we were massaged with Dead Sea salt and scented oils then wrapped up like mummies and left to marinate. After the exfoliating massage we were slathered with mud and wrapped up again. My skin never felt so soft. When our spa treatments were done we decided to take a dip in the indoor/outdoor pool filled with Dead Sea water. Took some time to get used to the buoyancy. The anti-gravity effect was pretty cool. We wrapped up our day in Ein Bokek with some floating around ... read more
