Today, I went to Ein Gedi. Ein Gedi is an oasis. It is surrounded by desert and faces the Dead Sea. The mountains on the other side of it are in Jordan. There was a lot of wildlife there. We saw Ibex (mountain goats) and furry yellow animals that looked like a giant guinea pigs (the desert hyrax). There were also giant waterfalls that you could swim under, and an old cave that had stalactites and stalagmites. At some points on the hike, I was holding on for dear life. The hiking trail was very steep and I felt like an explorer. There was even a temple from 3,000 years ago that was built for worshiping the moon.

Amazing!
Abby - I love the pictures you've added to this entry! Your hike sounds like a real adventure and the animals are so unusual. I can't say that I've ever heard of a hydrax, but you are right - it looks like a giant guinea pig! You are taking full advantage of the opportunities around you. I'm so glad that we get to travel vicariously through you and your wonderful blog. Our class is writing free-verse poetry. I wonder what kind of poem you could write about a place like this oasis... Say HI to your parents and Emily! Love, Mrs. Mo
