Sun is shining, weather is sweet here in Jerusalem. Thanks, Bob Nesta Marley The "homeland" of Israel is now my home, and will be for a while. I flew in last week and arrived at 4:30 in the morning in a completely dark new country. What to do? I slept in the airport for over an hour. I kept waking up thinking that Israeli soldiers with guns would slightly or not so slightly poke me with the tips of their guns as if I were a dirty stray dog and tell me to move on. So the hour sleep only felt like half that at most. The main Israeli airport, The David Ben-Gurion Airport, is the most amazing airport I've ever seen. Its built out of similar stones as the entire Old City of Jerusalem. But ... read more

Regardless of what is happening now in Israel I still think it's one of the most amazing places full of culture and special places. The Old City is such a mix of people living side by side and the buildings are also fascinating. I spent a couple of days near Qumran as well and I found this place has a real vibrant energy and the views towards the mountains/hills are breathtaking. ... read more

Hello again i just returned from a loong trip, in fact I did 3 things today. My day started with an attempt to walk around the old city on my own until I found out that my lacking sense of orientation lead me into the most remote corners of the city.. just far away from all sights. So in the end I decided to get a travel guide. he took me around town, I visited all important and holy places here in the old city (Al Aqsa, Wailing wall, via dolorosa, grave church, etc). Jerusalem is a very very special place with too much culture, different mentalities and religions. You literally feel like performing time travelling. Once youre inside the old city walls you feel like centuries behind, the only thing that reminds you of the ... read more

Hello everybody.... here I finally am after a long trip from amman to Jerusalem. The trip was so tiring and like chewing gum. I left Amman at 8.30 in the morning and it took exactly 7 hours to get to Jerusalem which is not far at all (without borders it would be a one hour drive) I caught a service taxi to the Jordanian-palestinian border, after passing the jordanian controls (loong queues and waiting times) everybody had to get on a bus that would bring everybody over the king hussein bridge to the israeli border controls, from there right into the luggage check and passport control. It was so ridiculous!!! They treated everybody as a potential state enemy. We were 2 big bus loads of palestinians and a hand full of tourists and diplomats, we went ... read more

After a pretty restless night (it was pretty rocky), I awoke to Greg telling us all to wake up before we missed the sunrise. A half hour later, the sun began to slowly rise over the mountains of Jordan. It was incredible! My pictures don't do it justice. After the sunrise, a few went bent to sleep, while others jumped into the crystal clear water. I'm still amazed on how clearly I could see the fish swimming around me. Before leaving Eliat, we decided to go "tubing". What's tubing? You take 2 rafts with 4 pairs of rope holds on each. Then tie the 2 rafts to the back of one power boat. Then 4 crazy people lie down on each raft and hold on to the rope holds. Then the boat takes off and you ... read more

Another early morning loading into the bus. But this time we were headed South. All the way South, to Elat, to be exact. On the way, we would be making a few stops. Where? I have no idea, so as I write we can be suprised together. Our 1st stop was at Tel Beer Sheva (or Bersheeba). Bersheeba ("well of the oath") dates back to Genesis. It's believed to be the place were Abraham made an oath with Abimelech (Genesis 21:22-32). Bersheeba also marked the southernmost point of ancient Israel (2 Samuel 24, 1 Chronicles 21). We were able to walk down into an ancient cistern and then around the remains of the city itself. It was amazing to see how all the rooms were laid out. One other little known fact about Bersheeba is that ... read more

Today was incredible! In the midst of the campground, I was able to find a little remote area nestled between 2 trees where the water was just starting to become rapid. I was able to read my bible and reflect/pray on how many blessings God has giving me. Including being able to come to Israel and spend time in the area that Jesus lived. This has been an amazing experience for me; most of which I can't even begin to put into words. After breakfast (pita, cucumbers, tomato, cheese and turkish/arabic coffee - there was a pretty healthy debate on who invented it) off to Nimrod's Fortress. Unlike most of the other places we've visited, Nimrod was built as an offensive fortress. It's located on the top of Mt. Hermon. At 9,200 feet above sea level, ... read more

After gathering outside Damascus gate (and taking pictures with the military), we loaded up on a bus and went to the Mt. of Olives. The views here are fantastic. You can see the Dome of the Rock, the Old City, Gethsemene and the City of David. It is believed that Jesus ascended from Mt Olives (Acts 1:3-11). It's quite remarkable to think about Jesus' disciples sitting there watching him ascend, not realizing that he wasn't coming back immediately. The Dome of the Rock sits on Mt. Moriah, which is where it is believed that Abraham was going to sacrifice Isaac (or Ishmael if you're Muslim) - (Genesis 22). It's the site where the temple of Solomon was built. It's now under Muslim control and functions as a mosque. The Muslims believe that Muhommed ascended from the ... read more
