Today we left our bucolic place on the mount of beatitudes and drove to the church of the annunciation. It is a beautiful big modern church to which they asked each nation to send a mosaic. I have included a few photos of ones of interest. We celebrated Mass at a church believed to be over Joseph’s shop, obviously there were huge prayers for my Son named to honor the man of great faith. Exploring down stairs, I discovered a spot, with the help of Msgr. Foynes Latin translation, which is where Joseph & Mary were betrothed; it is amazing that neither our guides nor the books mentioned this spot. My inclination to wander off finally paid off.

From Nazareth we drove the narrow twisting road that the bus could not navigate to Mount Tabor, The place of the transfiguration. Scripture says they went up a high mount and they weren’t kidding. There is a beautiful small church there dedicated to the Transfiguration. Interesting to me were the two tiny chapels in the back, one for Moses & one for Elijah. Peter might not have gotten to erect his tents but the Franciscans did a nice job for them. Looking over the edge of the Mount you could see the length of a green valley, the valley or Armageddon. Sight of many ancient and not so ancient battles where much blood has been shed and according to revelation has one more big battle coming. I was spine chilling!

Back down the mountain in or vans to the bus for our last stop today at the Jordan River. We renewed our baptismal promises and then I blessed myself with the water from the river. I also bought a small bottle and filled it with water from the river, maybe for grandchildren’s baptisms.

Tomorrow I am preaching at the chapel of the beatitudes, we are going on a boat trip on the Sea of Galilee and then back to Televiev and the flight home. The words in the blog cannot begin to describe the experience of being here. I hope all of you who want to come can make it someday.

Peace & Blessings from Galilee
