Caesarea is a small, very well-to-do town and extensive archaeological site on the Mediterranean coast of Israel, located some 50 km north of Tel Aviv and several km north of Hadera. The current population is 4,200. Beyond the ancient remains, Caesarea is a town devoted to tourists and to luxurious living. Some of Israels’ finest homes are located here and it is also home of Israel’s only 18-hole golf course, a luxury hotel, a vacation village, miles of sandy beaches, and a series of attractive restaurants, galleries and boutiques. And, of course, visitors marvel at its extraordinary archaeological attractions, not least of which is the Roman theatre, where concerts, entertainment extravaganzas and the annual International Opera Festival are held. I love to visit the city which offers ancient Roman ruins and Israel's only golf course. Golf ... read more

Today is February 14th, the day that many in the world celebrate Valentines Day, known as a day of romance and dedicated to lovers. The origins of Valentine's Day are not clear but many sources believe that it stems from the story of St. Valentine, a Roman priest who was martyred on or around February 14 in the year 270 CE. How ahe became the patron saint of lovers still remains a mystery. The ancient form of the ceremony included putting girls’ names in a box and letting the boys draw them out. Couples would then be paired off until the following year. The Christian church substituted saints’ names for girls’ names in hope that the participant would model his life after the saint whose name he drew. However, it was once again girls’ names that ... read more

The Baha'i World Center is located in Haifa, and the glorious Baha'i Gardens that surround the Shrine with its golden dome are a major addition to the natural beauty of the city. The Gardens are maintained by a group of young volunteers, Baha'i who come from all over the world to perform a year or more of service at the Center, often before beginning university. They and other volunteers are housed in a number of residential buildings that Baha'i owns around Haifa, or in apartments owned by the Center in other buildings. ... read more

Most people outside Israel are not aware of the fact that 25% of Israel’s population, are not from a Jewish background, and among them are Christians, Muslims, and Druze. Many people outside of this region are not aware of the diversity of streams within these faiths. One of the most wonderful joys of life in Israel is that each of the major religions is represented by a myriad of religious streams. The differences aren’t just theological, but are social, political, financial, and educational. For example, there are four Arab political parties in the governing body of Israel – The Knesset. There are numerous Jewish political parties with a wide divergence of philosophy and goals. url=http://www.themuslimtimes.org/2012/12/countries/israel/haifa-israel-is-the-city-of-peaceful-coexistence/attachment/mehmood-mosque-in-haifaimg=http://www.themuslimtimes.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Mehm... read more

Once again our region is exploding in turmoil. However, there is a side of life in Israel and Palestine that does not get enough attention in the media. I am blessed to live in Haifa which earns it title as "The City of Peaceful Coexistence". I wrote this story last fall and want to share it with the members of of travelblog.org The recent round of warfare in our South with Gaza was depressing in that it had to begin. There had not been any political way of getting the Hamas to stop firing explosives at our civilians. This tragically has been the history of life in Israel since the Jewish people reclaimed our ancestral homeland in 1948. Many of my friends and neighbors have fought in several wars. Many of them spent their early childhoods ... read more

I am sitting at my favorite dining place in Haifa, The Ego Food and Coffee eating Maafe Cinnamon or a Danish and drinking my beloved Absolute brand of Vodka. The cafe is located in the world famous Dan Panorama mall. It is an upscale shopping center next to the elegant hotel by the same name. ... Needless to say, I am searching for story ideas to put in my next post. My favorite servers, Danit, Shoshana, and Sher suggest that I write about the challenges facing Israeli youth. img=http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-a7fa0PlS47k/UbtjrEsMmEI/AAAAAAAAAF8/kk-jUGEbTeI/s320... read more

Geo: 32.812, 34.9987We don't get a lot of sea days on this cruise. I think there's only 6 or 7 out of the 33 days on board. Most days are spent in ports where activities and tours are available. Mom likes these sea days where she can get up later and wander around on the ship. She doesn't like to swim because there are too many people around on those days.We hung out by the pool. I worked on the blog while Mom went to the shops on board to browse. The weather was, of course, beautiful so we spent some time on our balcony. Just a nice relaxing day. Tomorrow we head to the last of the three substitute ports we were given in lieu of Israel called Nafplion. We'll see If this place is ... read more

I turned sixty five in April. The once twenty minute walk to the cafe now takes thirty. It is more due to the fact that I almost always seem to forget something than physical conditioning. I forgot my ex- wife's birthday for the first time in March. It was on my calendar which I neglected to review. Beautiful young women like Alexa now seem like granddaughters of grade school age. My once healthy appetite for dining has greatly dissipated. Alexa tried to reassure me that things are not as ... read more
