Some people who return from a year's travelling are glad to make it home and settle back into the old routine. I think you might have noticed by now that we're not that type of people! So, when my father rang and suggested we go over to Germany to see him for a few days, all expenses paid, naturally we jumped at the chance. Glynn's only been to the Black Forest once and it was wintertime then so it will be great to show him around my birthplace in all its summery beauty. I'll be sure to keep you posted of our continuing adventures along with plenty more photos :-)) The past week has seen us plunge headfirst into the ardous task of finding a job. So far, I've applied for two although only one ... read more

Trans-SiberianShane & Evonne As we set off from heatwave Moscow (low thirties - very unusual even at the height of Summer), we were both excited and apprehensive. Three days on a train is a long time but we were looking forward to idle days resting and staring out the window watching Siberia pass by. We awoke to a loud smash only 6 hours into the Trans Siberian trip (at 3am!). A hooligan had thrown a rock at the train and smashed of course, our window (see pic). Luckily we were unhurt as the rock only shattered the outside pane (double paned windows for insulation against the cold) but unfortunately, that was the end of idle days staring out our window! Travelling on the Rossya (the premier west-east direction Trans Siberian Train, #002 for those in the ... read more

Hi guys. It’s just me again, with my last installment before I head off home through the good old US of A (providing we can get there with Vaughan’s visa dramas). Things here have been really good, but busy. Sometimes it’s been hard to believe that we have actually been living in London all this time - it’s not like we go into the city to see Big Ben daily, so I guess it’s been pretty normal really. Of course though, often even the smallest (or seemingly easy) things seem the most different, and it will also be a bit strange for me to get used to everything back home again as well. Sometimes it’s the most mundane things that you never bother to talk about which I will miss the most from over here ... read more

So, since the last entry we have been to Rothenburg ob der Tauber (the Tauber is a river) and today we have been working on a presentation (our last one) for tomorrow. So lets start, on Thursday it was yet another early start to the day with a trip to Rothenburg. We stayed there for 3 days which was perfect. It has been incredibly hot here for the past few days, i think that is something that makes it a little uncomfortable, it gets really hot here for a few days then cools down quite a bit and then gets really hot again, leaving no time to adjust to the temperature. Anyway, Rothenburg was really cool it was a really old town with the walls of the city still there protecting the original part like it ... read more

Hi everyone, Things are going great in Sardinia. We have gotten back from the mountains (the most secluded part of all of Europe) and are now at a resort in the southern eastern coast. It is very nice. The view is amazing. I have my own balcony that over looks the beach. Since my last blog, I have done a lot of geologic mapping. It is not all fun and games here. We have also had some interesting cultural experiences like going to a wine festival at a vinyard (all you could eat and drink) and going to a festival in the mountains with people that could not speak any English. they were very simple farmers and herders, and treated us so nicely. We ate and drank with them in the mountains and had a ... read more

Happy birthday Dad! Today we walked around Seville - I will give more details later. Tonight we are going to a bull fight and to see a flamenco show, more details later... ...continued. The bull fight was AMAZING! I have never seen something so exciting in my life. Many people were horrified, including the lady sitting beside me, but strangely I love the blood and gore. The flamenco show was mediocre.... read more
