2 decisions - that despite the fact that I keep doing silly things like loosing passports I apppear to be able to rise above such inconveniences and that despite a torrential downpour on/off beach (12th) me and my new bulgarian phone are unstoppable even when edging towards the wet T shirt brigade (along with half Varna populous). 2 Rakias and a cheese -filled pancake helped a treat. Made the (free) hostel pickup and on way home visited a deli/butcher, coming away with 1and half kilo piece of pork for £3.50!! Yes please life is good and today I move banks, pickup my passport letter for Sofia (consulate) and visit my house in conjunction with Katia hopefully. This will be the first time she has seen it.We also will see the other property of Kapitals in that village ... read more

Today we decided to meet Jonathan close to his office on the grounds of the university We meandered down the street towards the Arenburg Kasteel (Castle). The property currently cover 29 hectacres and are filled with all sorts of walking and biking paths. Before World War I the Arenburg family could supposedly walk from the Atlantic Ocean to the Czech Republic and never leave their own land. After their involvement in WWI they were forced to give away a lot of land which is how KUL came to own this parcel and the buildings on it. The girls found the oldest church (kerk) in Heverlee up on one of the hills and we explored that. Seeing all of these churches has really sparked the girls interest in religion. They are a little confused because they ... read more

We made it! Sarah and I arrived in Reykjavik arond 2am EST ....7am in Iceland. We were totally dazed and confused, running on adrenaline. What we didn't realize is that the International airport is about 45 minutes from the city of Reykjavik and that the area in between is completely uninhabited. Miles and miles of volcanic rock with the only vegetation being mosses and lupine. It was beautiful, unlike anything we have ever seen before. The guesthouse where we stayed for the night was really cute, about a 15 minute walk from the town center. Once we dropped off our bags and found some coffee, we decided the best way to handle our jetlag would be to soak in the blue lagoon. The blue lagoon is a geothermally heated pool about 40 minutes outside of ... read more

So Im not such a fan of Naples. Its crowded and busy and the traffic is ridiculous. Most people dont speak English and they just look at me like Im stupid when I try to speak Italian. I know I obviously dont speak great Italian, but Im trying. Give me some credit. Yesterday I hated Naples. Today I still dont like it, but Ive adjusted and its okay now. So after seeing the Pope... I saw the anti-Bush riots. They were peaceful, but I was still kind of afraid and spent a lot of that day in my room. It was my last day there, but I had kind of run out of things to do anyways. So I came to Naples the next day. And hated it so much. I couldnt find the hotel I ... read more

Europe » Czech Republic » Prague June 13th 2007

We started our day off by taking the metro from Namesti Republicky to Nadroni Trida. We then transferred to Tram 22 and rode it past the Prague Castle to the Belvedere Palace. The palace, a Renaissance style building, was the summer palace of Queen Anne and was built in the 1500's. We decided not to tour the actual palace because it now contains an art exhibit that didn't look very interesting. Instead we wandered the gardens and came upon a grassy area that had several birds (hawks, eagles, and owls) on display that you could hold for 100 kc (about $5). I fell in love with one particular owl, so the 100 kc seemed a bargain to be able to hold him. This particular breed of owl is quite common in Prague and is often ... read more

So I have just over 2 weeks left of work and I'm actually off sick right now so I thought it'd be a good time to set up my new travel diary for all those trips I still have ahead of me. Today I decided that I will do my little Euro road trip after all, the decision was something of a no brainer anyway after I discovered that the ferry home from Norway has jumped up from the £130 I paid on the way over here to £320 to get home... summer prices are a bitch. I'm actually really excited by the idea now though and I've already bought my lonely planet guide to Europe and requested anyone on facebook to join me if they dare!! I should get home for around the 17th ... read more

Europe » Germany » Berlin » Berlin June 13th 2007

After leaving Amsterdam we headed over to BERLIN, the drive was so long. As soon as we arrived, dinner was served with these massive beers, real cheap too. That night the group went to the local bar and had an awesome time. That’s when I introduced the JAGGERBOMBS to the Americans, they all loved it. I even manage to get some of the Chinese drunk, good fun. The next day we had a 3 hr walking tour around Berlin, so much history and so much to do. Once the tour was done, I and 3 others decided to venture to the outskirt of Berlin to see a Concentration Camp. It was about an hr away by train and worth the visit. The camp itself was liberated by the Russians therefore less known. It was a ... read more

well, quite alot has happened over the last 27hours. on arrival back in amsterdam on monday night we were approached by a man who could only really be described as an entire chump. visibly drunk, he proceeded to tell us his story of how he had been in amsterdam for only 2 hours, and had already been mugged, beaten up, jailed and let out. all in the space of 2 hours. he looked like he was going to lamp us. we survived though, and got back to our hostel safely enough. yesterday was another day of walking. went towards anne franks house early doors, but the queue was massive, so we went to the heineken museum instead. this place was superb. i fell in love again, with a girl who was working on one of the ... read more

Today will be my second full day in London. Its been such a busy past few days. Tuesday night my dad and mom drove me up to Phoenix so that I could catch my direct flight into London Heathrow. The plane was amazing! I have never seen such a big plane in my life. Our flight took off at 9:00pm Phoenix time so we flew all night. I thought that I would be able to get some sleep but I ended up sleeping about 30 minutes the entire flight. We got to Heathrow at about 2:30pm London time. We had a fairly easy time going through the airport with our baggage claim and customs. There were 4 other girls on this flight so it was nice to have other people to travel with. We took ... read more

Woke around noon after a much needed night of sleep. The hostel was probably one of the best ive stayed in so far. Personal atmosphere yet quite clean and extremely friendly plus good looking girl staff. We decided to head off to castle hill to check out a few sites and grab a bite to eat along the way. First place we came across was a funny looking place called samurai burger which was supposedly good and cheap according to a fellow hostel mate. The burgers were actually huge and delicious plus they included onion rings and a beer for like 4 or 5 euros, pretty sweet deal. After satisfying our appetites we headed to the top of castle hill to see fisherman's bastion and the palace. The views were amazing, similar to prague but ... read more
