Made my way to pick Alice up from the airport was so excited and a little bit nervous. When she came out of the terminal I gave her the biggest hug and realized how much I was missing my good friends! We headed into Barcelona to explore for the night and spent the night up and down Las Rambas filling in each other of the news for the last 4 months we hadn’t seen each other for.
The next day we went into Barcelona and it was the day of Sant Jordi- this is the patron saint of Catalunya. The tradition goes that guys buy girls roses and in exchange girls buy guys books. Therefore all up las rambas and plaza catalunya there were stalls selling book and roses everywhere. I have never seen so many people in my life! We could hardly move and walk around as there was just so many people – we both decided we will definitely not be living in the city when we are older ☺ we went to the most amazing ice cream shop and got waffles with chocolate! Yum! The shop was dangerous saw so many types of ice creams that we
NEED to try. Because it was so busy we missed two trains trying to get up las rambas and when we got home we fell into bed.
Sunday- we discovered all shops were closed and so decided to try and make bread so hence our day revolved around watching the breadmaker- and for lunch we had hot bread with oil and balsamic and all other possible toppings! We then wandered around Sant Llorens.
For the rest of week we did the tourist things such as Sagrada Familia which was amazing! We also did a tour through casa batillo – it’s a house that a family commissioned gaudi to design- best thing I’ve seen so far! Also went to park Guell which was awesome as well! However all the touristy stuff is so exhausting! Rest of the time we spent at home- we had more fun and laughs just in my house here than doing the things in barcelona!
Alice’s flight left at 7am on Thursday and there’s no train that early from my town so we decided to go out that night . We got an amazing deal at one of the clubs- which supposedly happens every
Wednesday (how did I not know!) we got free entrance into club (normally 10 euro) free unlimited drinks until 1pm. Free buffet and tapas and deserts and free make up- I’ve attached photos! Was amazing poor guys! Its how the clubs make their money! We met a Swedish girl and a Canadian who we got on with really well so spent the night with them raging! Had such a good night- dropped Alice off at the airport and home to my girls after being awake 24 hours needless to say I was trying not to fall asleep at the breakfast table.
Early morning Saturday 3am to be exact. Every year my town does a walk from Sant LLorens to monseratt and to the top. Monseratt is a mountain between Barcelona and Sant LLorens and has a monestry is the most visited place in the whole of catalunia. So woke up early prepared myself for this 7 hour walk and went to meet- I was so surprised at the number of people there were about 80 people all ages doing it. The girls and a guy from volley came so was cool to meet more of friends and chill together.
The walk there was so nice- we saw the stars and then the sunrise- by this time we had been walking for 3 hours and still had plenty to go. We walked at least 20 km or for 5 hours until we reached the mountain. And then they wanted us to climb it? Really? Parts of the track were so steep we were scaling the rocks- was so tired but kept going. 2 Hours later we reached Monserrat and it was definitely worth it! Absolutely beautiful! We then wandered around the churchs and the town- trying all the local food along the way. Not sure if we will be able to walk tomorrow!
Sunday: surprisingly I wasn’t sore at all so we decided to go on a road trip to towns nearby and hopefully find something open on a Sunday. We ended up in a small town which was buzzing full of people and had a awesome market lots of food!- but no one had chocolate cherros- which supposedly is a very Spanish thing – so a bit disappointed! One day soon! Lots of awesome hippy clothes- which I will be wearing on my travels ! Cant wait! We
bought a huge box of strawberries for 2 euros and once we couldn’t eat anymore decided to head home and turn the strawberries into a sauce and have pancakes! Had awesome night at Kates house (au pair from England) cooking/drinking wine and just chilling out! Really loving the company of all the au pairs!!
ps- sorry about double ups and bad photos- takes so long to sort through and delete so just popped them all on!
hope all is well on that side of the world- and the weird weather stops soon!
