After a mammoth journey across land from Thailand, I made it home after five months traveling, and nothing beats home. I hadn't been in the UK for almost a year and was delighted to step through the front door!
Spain
Ironically after having been in the country for two days, I left it again! I was off to Spain to visit relatives who live there and it was a perfect way to wind down from being on the go for so long! I wasn't too lucky with the weather, but I really didn't care as I was waking up with a view over the sea in a peaceful village! I made the most of one sunny afternoon laying on the patio, post champagne, with a book...it's a hard life!
Christmas
Once back from Spain, I began catching up with everyone I had missed so much back home! After much socialising, Christmas soon came around and I loved waking up at home on Christmas day, and was very grateful to be there with my family. It had been a while since I had had a traditional Christmas, and thoroughly enjoyed my Christmas dinner - last year it was Thai food.
I like tradition best!
I spent much of the holiday season journeying around and catching up. I had a long lunch with the girls form school, I played with various friends and relatives' children, I spent two nights in a beautiful house in the Cotswolds. I went to Birmingham for the day, I went to Stratford-Upon-Avon for lunch, and I went to Wigan for a night before jetting off to Brussels for the weekend! Phew!
Brussels
Brussels was a reunion with five of six of the girls I went to Hungary with in 2003 and we had a lovely catch up, staying in one of the girls' flats there. We had many snowy walks as Brussels turned white on our first morning! It was very pretty. We enjoyed a visit to the musical instruments museum which had a very clever system whereby the wireless headphones would play the music of the instrument you were standing in front of. Of course we indulged in some moule fritte and a Belgian waffle, but the best bit was seeing old friends!
UK
When I was home last February, England saw a mass of snow which stopped all activity on the
trains and the UK shut down for a day. It was very pretty and unheard of for England! However, this year topped that! there was snow upon snow upon snow! Thank fully it didn't stop any of my fun, and it has made England very picturesque (until it turns to slush!) Schools were shut for a couple of days, and our car couldn't get past the end of the road because of ice! Once people got more used to the snow, life seemed to go on a bit more normally. I however, just enjoyed it and went out walking!
Having caught up with lots of people, bar a few who I have sadly missed (next time!) I am now ready for the next adventure, as I set off back to Hong Kong to be faced with a classful of smiling (I hope) five year olds!
See you next time England!
