Alright everywhere else we go on this trip I haven't been to before, so I'm excited and ready to go!
~4hr drive to Salzburg was good nap time. Well, first half of the drive everyone napped and then after our rest stop it was singing time lol. The kids randomly broke out into "Doe a Deer" on loop for like 10min with 2 of us teachers cheering them on and looks of death from another haha. I'm just waiting for Jay to break out his ukulele skills! (He legit brought one)
Arriving into the Salzburg area was beautiful, as usual. It was great hearing and seeing the kids see the Alps. Seriously, it's so fun watching them experience things. We drove by Mondsee (make and church used in the movie). Than there's currently a crazy amount of construction going on in Salzburg itself, so we had to park on the outskirts and walk in, but that's fine.
We had about 40 min to grab food and any souvenirs... I was annoyed because they walked us through the main food market - didn't let us stop - then dropped us off in front of a SPAR which is like
a glorified 7-11 and Starbucks and that was pretty much our option for lunch. Like...???
Next was our "Sound of Music Tour". Yeah. It wasn't really "Sound of Music"... and we couldn't hear the guide half the time because her speaker was too quiet or she didn't use the mic at all. I gave up after our second or third spot and just stayed on the outskirts of the group to take pics. The kids were good. They were annoyed too, but listened best the could and weren't rude about it.
It was nice to go the Cathedral - always a good photo spot, especially since we went inside. The cemetary was beautiful as well - I find them so calm and peaceful to walk through. Gorgeous intricate stones and decorations here too.
As far as "Sound of Music" goes, we walked by the convent. Walked by the fountain... Which isn't in use and is all boarded up since it's winter... so... we saw the very top part only.
Our group was then seen by a group of creeps who obviously just saw our group and thought we'd be easy prey. Three of them moved in
but I glared and walked towards two, and another teacher saw the third, so they backed off and followed us from a distance for a few minutes before moving on. Good practice run for Italy I guess lol.
We got back on the bus and drove to the palace and lake used in the movie. Palace 1 we couldn't visit, Palace 2 we didn't even see other than from a further road. Ok. Great. The lake was really pretty though, I'll give it that.
We drove towards Innsbruck after that - or well to Tyrol, nestled in the mountains. We drove through Germany which meant going through the border. Omg bless. We pull into the bus lane - 5 guards are there and they're eyeing us from the side, talking to each other as they plan their check. Dude 1 talks to driver. "American?" We literally - in unison - all frantically replied "CANADIAN". All the guards heard us lol - the oldest guy just kind of chuckled, the others nodded and the guy closest to the bus waved his hand nevermind as he walked away from the door.
Rest of the drive was lovely - I
mean it's in the valleys of the Alps, pretty hard for it not to be fabulous. Still a lot of snow in the mountains and some in the valley too - it was amazing to see. I'll be back here at some point.
Dinner was at the hotel - it was buffet, but pretty good. The hotel is super quirky which makes it fun. The kids all have nicer rooms than us though haha - they're in the newer addition, but that's ok, it's clean... that's what counts.
