Being Sunday, and having no other plans which necessitated me being anywhere in the morning, I decided to go to church. Checking the Bournemouth Circuit website I discovered that Trinity Methodist Church was only 10 minutes walk away and had a service at 10am, so that's where I headed on a beautiful warm summers day, pleased to be visiting a different church. Not being entirely sure of the route I set off in good time and found myself there way too early, so I sauntered along Boscombe high street for 15 minutes, surprised to see it quite busy and with quite a few people sipping coffee outside bistro's and coffee shops. Eventually I found my way back to the church 20 minutes before the service time and tried the front door. It was locked. OK, I thought, perhaps they are slow starts here (but also thinking that by now at Wheatley Lane church we would be in full preparation). So I sat down on a bench and waited. By five to ten no-one else had appeared and it was clear that nothing was going to happen, so, disappointed, I went back to John and Jane's, surprising them all by being back
so soon. Jane managed to pull up the circuit plan for services that day and told me that they were having a circuit service and one of the other churches, which explained why Trinity was closed that day. This was at 10.30am, and I could have got there by car, but the moment had gone and I made myself comfortable on the sofa with a Bill Bryson book.
Helen had arranged to meet up with an old friend she hadn't seen for over 20 years, for lunch, and later on I drove her to Bournemouth pier where the restaurant was. Having discovered that there was a model railway exhibition only ten miles away, in New Milton, I then went there. I was looking forward to this as I expected to see some layouts for the first time, as most do not travel far out of their immediate geographical area, and in this I was not disappointed.
Helen too had a great time catching up with her old friend, so after a slightly dodgy start, the day turned out fine.
