After a little deliberation as to which direction to take we headed for Llangollen. Remind me never ever to come away without the road atlas in future. It really does challenge our abililty to plan the route to whereever we are going, The Satnav is fine except it does like to take us on roads which we would prefer not to be on. There are some exceedingly narrow roads here in Wales with wonky stone walls on either side and many blind hair pin bends. Quite often we have had to breath in in order for the vehicle coming the other way to get past. Fortunately we have only had the car to consider. A couple of roads we used went across bridges with low walls on either side which would have grabbed the Caravan if ... read more

Time to leave the Lynn Peninsula and the sea for Bala lake in Snowdonia.. All hitched up and sorted. Getting practicised at checking everything on and in the caravan to be secure before moving off. We have of course always done that in the motorhome but in the motorhome you can see if a door has been left open and leap up to shut it. The caravan interior is out of sight and sound when we are towing it so have to be much for careful before setting off. As usual, car wing mirror extensions were the last thing remembered and fitted just as we left. All good, though really the roads on the peninsula and anywhere else we have been in Wales, really could do with a little widening in places. We passed through one ... read more

More beach exploration today. This time the West coast of this little peninsula. It isn’t very big, not many miles long and in several spots we have been able to see the sea on both sides and at the foot. But getting along the roads is a different matter. 5 miles can easily take 25 minutes. There are no straight roads and we laugh when the Sat Nav says follow this road straight for the next two miles 😊. Plus, many stretches of road are, if not actually single track, not wide enough for a line down the middle. We have spent many minutes since arriving here, sitting patiently squished into a hedge to let another perfectly normal sized car get past. We are a little disappointed not to find pretty little villages in this area. ... read more

We are exploring. Would be easier if we had thought to put the road atlas in the car but we didn’t and are reliant on the incar SatNav and my phone which frequently loses all signal. Today we went to the East Coast, under the pig’s ear so the more sheltered side. We waited for the overnight rain to pass over and hopefully set out in summer wear. All good. The sun did come out, the grey clouds vanished and we had a mainly lovely blue sky day. Pwllheli first. Neither of us have been before so no idea what to expect but we hit a traffic jam as we approached the centre, just cars trying to get from one side to the other. A really strange layout of a place. We drove through a typical ... read more

Moved on today a little further along North Wales. Not a long drive. Up the few miles to the coast then followed it along via the Menai Straits past Anglesey and down what I always refer to as the Pig’s Ear of Wales, the Lynn Peninsula. Can’t be specific as to where we are as really we are just somewhere surrounded by fields and quite lovely views, including to the sea about 2 miles away. This is a CL, Gwyn Tawel and we are nicely set up with fully hooked up water again. We decided to try attaching the awning and after only a couple of wrong moves managed quite well. We were told it takes 10 minutes and maybe it took us that plus an hour but now we know what we are doing will ... read more

Today was all about the beautiful National Trust Gardens at Bodnant. We had intended to visit there and then go on to Conway. There is a castle there which we have seen before when we’ve stayed at Ruthin with sister Liz and Graham, where there is a frequently used Lancs & Cheshire camping DA holiday site. We never made it to revisit the Conway Castle though as we were so delighted with the Bodnant Gardens we decided very quickly we would stay all day. We did have a slight issue getting there from the campsite and were truly grateful we didn’t have the caravan in tow as the Sat Nav took us on one of its Jollies in an attempt to cut 10 metres off our journey. We realized as soon as the road had a ... read more

Going to be two days rolled into one otherwise I will be behind myself before I’ve really set off. So, on Monday 21st, the caravan was persuaded to leave the drive and advance up our narrow road with the aid of the trusty auto motormover. The car reversed down the road and the two met harmoniously in the middle. Only blocked the road for 3 minutes but the man waiting in his Maserati was impatient. I did Not apologize. And we were off. Up the M6 and then the M56, all nice and easy and then some of the more interesting narrow lanes of North Wales, but none too testing, to our campsite, in farmland just above Colwyn Bay. Plas Farm, a very pleasant site, nicely kept and we are on a fully serviced pitch as ... read more

This blog - the second part of our trip to the Forest of Dean and the Welsh borders - has been a wile in the creative process. Sometimes, the words just flow. Other times, they don't. On this occasion, I can blame neither and life has just quite simply got in the way. There is no high powered career to bother about anymore, but getting the best out of the NHS is in effect a job in its own right. Life is very much dominated by the latter at the moment and even this trip was a last minute plan, squeezed in between the various appointments and blood tests that the Other Half now has in her permanent calendar. The majority spend a significant portion of their lives avoiding the institution and it seems such a ... read more

Home and Away - it seems the theme for blogs is definately more home than away. If we are lucky we feel like travelling a little further afield . However trips out seem to have fallen into some kind of black hole . So yet again we found ourselves on another tour of our home town. I tell myself there is always something to learn about your surroundings. You may have been born there or grew up there . You might have attended a local school and have childhood or teenage memories . You might never have moved more than three or so miles from where you came from . But there is always something you don't know about your home town. We were invited on a walk around the town . A small group taken ... read more

Well the day had arrived and it was raining . Why does it always rain on us when we have to stand outside ? We had booked tickets for a tour of the Stok Racecourse Ground for the princely sum of £10 each. These were taster tours around the ground and we were on the last week of them . Two every week - all booked up . We were guinea pigs apparently on the new initiative of stadium tours . Issued with our lanyards our names were ticked off the list . Even though we visited the Racecourse ground every other week in the season we hoped that we would learn something new today. We got there early and wandered around around the club shop which was selling the new home shirts. They were selling ... read more
