Gifts Days . As I parked up on Station Road - the station long gone in the Beeching cuts of the 1960's - only the name remains I pondered on Gift Days . I cannot say I knew anything about Gift Days when I was living in England . They seemed though to be popular here in Wales . Gift Days - the day chosen by the local church for the inhabitants of a village to support their local church . It did not matter what religion you were or even if you had none Gift Day was deemed to be the day that you could support the church with a gift of money if you felt so inclined. Times had changed . Fuelled by adrenalin we arrived at our new home to find the previous owners still there. Someone joked to me a few weeks ago that they had a friend who moved house . When they arrived with their removals the previous owners were sitting in the middle of the room surrounded by all their furniture. We had not expected the same welcome . It was clear though that we were in the same position. We felt as if we had arrived at a strange town expecting something wonderful only to find that the reality was something different . Thich Nhat Hanh the Vietnamese Buddhist monk penned the words "Once you are back in your true home, you will feel the peace and the joy you deserve." I read this way back last Christmas and put it one side thinking it summed up motorhome travelling. Since then we have not been out much in Gabby in what we consider our true home on wheels. Tewkesbury was an interesting break. The bells rang out on the Sunday. They started early in the morning calling the faithful to prayer and matins. They continued through the day donging away up and down the musical scales. Donging to encourage visitors to morning prayers , to Holy Communion and to Evensong.
