Alex and I spent the day beside the sea yesterday. We stopped at the community café on the way, for coffee, then walked over the dunes to the beach. After a picnic lunch we set off to find a few caches in an area we don't often get to. We found some lovely spots, as we always do when we go geocaching, it always takes us to interesting places.... read more

For some reason I thought I'd be 68 this year, until Sophie put me right; so I was one year younger than I expected on Thursday. How nice. And here are some pictures of us all enjoying my birthday.... read more

I've lost count of how many weeks this hot weather has lasted, but Ineke had a few days off, so we decided to make the most of it and head for the coast. It was boiling, and the bottoms of the tents were rolled up all day. We chose to camp in a different field this time, same site, and I was able to keep an eye on passing trains as well as hear them. Yesterday afternoon the thunder clouds rolled in so we quickly packed the tents up and came home. And eventually this afternoon there was a welcome drop of rain, everywhere round here is simply parched. I expect that once the school holidays begin, the rain will start in earnest, but for now its just a drip.... read more

I drove up to Scotland for a few days to help with childminding while Tom and Sophie were at work; the school holidays have begun in Scotland already. The children were good as gold and we had a lovely time although we didn't do that much as it was very hot. But on Saturday Sophie drove us to a beautiful beach on Loch Lomond where we played in the water all day long. Lovely and cool. And today I came back home. Next week, Tom's in charge!... read more

I have just spent a few very hot and sunny days in my tent on the coast. It was too hot to do much, so I read a couple of books between snoozes. Yesterday, Ineke, Alex and Dad came for the day. And today I had to break camp and come home, time for mowing again! I thoroughly enjoyed myself!... read more

Alex and I spent a few days in Glasgow last week, and decided to stop in the Yorkshire Dales on the way up. We've had a lovely time, the weather was hot and sunny, and despite a severely thundery day here yesterday, with a downpour just as we arrived home,( very good for the plants) , today turned out to be lovely again, and I've been sitting out in the garden all evening.... read more

This morning Alex and I went for a walk in the bluebell woods...and as luck would have it, a new cache has been placed there too, so we had two purposes. Three, if you include the exercise! Which it is, as the wood grows on an Iron Age hill fort with very steep ramparts. The bluebells were beautiful, and the cache had four parts, all oak tree related, and we managed to locate each part and thus find the final hidden Tupperware box. Good mornings work.... read more

Dad, Alex and I went up to the Green Lane Burial field today as it was Mum's birthday. It was a beautiful day to go and we couldn't help thinking that she'd chosen a really good spot in a lovely place. With a little help from Eira, who runs the field and happened to be about, we found Mum's stone and could wish her a happy birthday. After a short sit at the top of he hill, we decided on a pub lunch, and it were able to sit outside and eat fish and chips.... read more
