As Ineke wasn't working till later this evening, and Alex was off with the canoeing club, we thought we'd set off early for a walk by the sea. It turned out a perfect day for it too, the sky cleared and the sun came out, the tide was high and the waves choppy. And we finished off with lunch in the community cafe nearby. The cobwebs have been blown away for a while!... read more

Alex and I decided to have a walk round the woods at Chirk Castle today, for a change. There were even some snowdrops out in the woods, though not as many as in my garden!... read more

Needless to say, the days were well filled, and most of the evenings too. We had a walk round the hill fort at Oswestry one day, and explored round lake Vyrnwy another. Alex and I went to Chirk with them the day they left, for a run around and a coffee before they headed to the motorway, and we came home very quietly!... read more

We needed to find a cache to collect our New Years day souvenir, so we decided to head to Barmouth where there is one on the bridge that we haven't yet found. Turned out to be busy there, with a New Years Day swim taking place, strangely in fancy dress.....we met a penguin and several Santas. Anyway, we strolled along the beach, then made our way along to the bridge, sorted out the cache and finally got fish and chips in the chippy before heading home. Hope 2019 proves to be a good year for you all.... read more

We hadn't seen those Coopers for ages, so Alex and I decided to drive north for his weekend off, (and he managed to trade Monday off too), and we left on Friday evening and returned today. Thus we spent two whole days in rather livelier than usual company. Alex proved to be the perfect uncle, joining in with everything and doing as he was told regarding rules of games, and even taking part in a "performance" in which he was cast as a dragon...you can guess who the princess and the knight were. We took Bella, so walks were needed, one involved geocaching, the other involved adventures. You'll see.... read more

I've been on a southern tour this week, visiting friends and relations in Somerset and Devon. First I stayed with my "old" friend Hilary and her husband, then to Liz, then to My friend Sue and cousin Jerry in Georgeham, near Barnstaple. Back to Hodges, then home. It was nearly as far as going to Glasgow!... read more

I popped Alex on the train for Manchester airport, on his way to Budapest, and the following day my friend Beth arrived from Kent. She is my oldest friend, we were actually born together and our mums were friends too. well, the weather was atrocious really. On Wednesday we decided to have a look on the high aqueduct at Froncysyllte but we were almost blown off. We thought we'd try going over in a boat, but that couldn't make any headway and we had to be pushed back by a kindly passing cyclist or we'd be there still. The water in the channel was blowing like spray on the prom! Vey exciting. The following day it poured with rain non stop, though we got an early dog walk in the dry. And Dad invited us out ... read more

An Australian friend of ours called in for a couple of days at the weekend, after visiting her cousin and before flying back home. and the thing she most wanted to do was ride in a horse drawn narrow boat. So we drove up to Llangollen where they do such a thing, and had a very busy day drinking tea, eating cake and riding on a narrow boat! Sadly Alex was working, so it was only Mervena and me. .... read more
