Well, that's it for another year! Actually until tomorrow, when the Coopers arrive to liven us up from our overeating torpor! There were lots of neighbourly visits, with cups of tea and mince pies! And Alex and I ate with Dad on Christmas eve and Christmas day. Alex had to work, but he didn't mind, though the early starts are not so nice in the dark. BUT, we are past the shortest day and we are looking forward to longer days again. Hope you all enjoyed the festivities with your families as much as we did.... read more

Every Christmas Ineke, Caroline and I try to go somewhere special, so we've been to Birmingham and Chester Christmas markets, and yesterday we went to see the ballet Copelia in Shrewsbury. Cheated slightly as it was a live screening from Covent Garden. We went a bit early so we could have a quick look round town and get something to eat, and despite foul weather, we had a great time, of course.... read more

Sophie, Martha and Jack came for the weekend, sadly Tom had to go to work so had to stay at home. Friday was a glorious day so we went to see the witch's circle, then stopped to see the Christmas decorations in Charlie's store before calling on Great Grandad. On Saturday we laid on some snow. And today we went for a walk before they headed back to Glasgow.... read more

Lynda and I had a day out today. Its her birthday and she chose to take the train to Barmouth. Its a lovely ride from Machynlleth , all along the estuary and then beside the sea. We had a lovely day, walked along the prom, poked about in the shops, ate fish and chips, until it was time to return on the train. And the ride was free with our bus passes! Even better.... read more

Just recently we've had lots of family to catch up with. Its been lovely. But I didn't get pictures of everyone, sadly. Janet called one Saturday, Liz came up for a weekend, followed by Sue and Jerry. Yesterday I met the Coopers near the M6 on their way home from Oxford to Glasgow, and today Dad, Alex and I met the Colchester Hearns for chips in Barmouth.... read more

We spent today walking along a slate trail at a village called Corris. The trail took us along a valley at the head of which had once been a huge slate mine, and we had a lovely walk along a crystal clear stream, which once was cloudy with slate dust. Glad I live now and now 200 years ago. To end up we had lunch in the café. You have to be out all day when someone is decorating your kitchen!... read more

A glorious September morning dawned, so Dad and I went to Ellesmere for a day beside the lake, and Ineke joined us. Turned out that across the border in England it was much cloudier, but we had a good time anyway.... read more

Kate and John thought they'd have a change and head for Barmouth today, and I met them there. Shame Alex and Ineke were working. Well, lots of others had the same idea as it was really a very hot day. We had a swim in the sea, then a stroll along the prom till we reached the chip shop! Then we decided to leave the crowds and head to a shady woodland on the estuary where the dogs could have a bit of fun and we could admire the view. Today, Kate was the photographer.... read more
