Gabby the motorhome is parked up on Monmouth Caravan Park. From her windows we can see the much ruined castle and the church spire. The sun is shining down on us. The chairs are out and we are settled in on a hard standing plot . The welcome was warm and we were told that we could round the one way system and park up in the first spot. We got that wrong and went in the third but there was no remonstration that we were parked incorrectly . We were left on our own. It is quite a small site with a mixture of overnighters like us and semi permanent caravans. Some with gardens and chairs under make shift awnings. Most looked as if they were lived in for part of the summer. We had ... read more

We love castles. Some more than others. We have seen many over the years. Sometimes together. Sometimes separately. We have seen castles from the 20th century like Castle Drogo designed by Lutyens , the great Norman castles at Dover and the Tower of London. The castles of Wales from the early welsh ones to the ones built by Edward I to suppress the Welsh. Some we love . Others we hate. We love the castles of Ferrara and Mantova and those from the Aosta Valley . We today have already visited one near to Abergavenny and now we and Gabby are sitting on a massive car park around the very pretty castle at Raglan. The lovely weather has brought folks out and we are not alone. Throughout our morning more and more arrive. Some set up ... read more

Geo: 51.8142, -2.71292Ludlow, England to Monmouth, WalesAfter leaving Ludlow, we past the Cadbury Chocolate Factory. The route to Plymouth would weave us in and out of Wales and England for a good part of the afternoon. We entered Wales again at 3:56 and then back into England at 4:04 and then back into Wales at 4:12 as we traveled along the Wye Valley. We stopped near Monmouth to see the Tintern Abbey. The abbey was founded in 1131 and by the 14th century was the richest abbey in Wales. It was dissolved in 1536. A plaque on the wall of the Abbey stated that in 1568 brass was first made nearby this location. We didn't have time to enter the grounds, but you could see a lot from the sidewalk. Across the street another Cricket game ... read more

A relatively short day today - in distance anyway. Checked out of the Aber Cottage in Dolgellau (pronounced - dol geth lee yeah I know we'll explain later) and wandered around this tiny hamlet. Very, very narrow streets. almost humerous that there are lines painted down the middle of the road when it is only 6 feet wide. Said goodbye to Barabara at the cottage and headed out on the road. There is no way to drive these roads at what we consider high speeds in North America. BUT!!! the scenery makes you want to stop at every turn. Stopped for lunch in Rhyader at one of the local pubs. I had a chicken breast that was smothered in port & stilton sauce. WOW! Wanted to lick the plate. They had a vintage show ust down ... read more
