Wednesday was the best weather day so we headed over to Snowdonia to go up Cadair Idris by the Mynffordd path. I've done this was a couple of times before, once with Vicky but it was new to Chavaunne. We climbed up to Llyn Cau and ate lunch overlooking the lake hoping the clouds on the mountain tops would lift. We climbed higher and were contemplating the final ascent of Craig Cwm Amarch when the cloud got lower so since we already had good views & I knew how hard to find the path beyond the summits was we turned back & the cloud followed us down for some way before turning into rain! Lots of inappropriately clothed walkers about though.... We got down before the cafe closed & treated ourselves to tea & cake whilst ... read more

Snowdonia national park is home to some beautiful scenery, rolling green hills and the tallest mountain in Wales. Driving the winding roads through valleys and mountains led us to Bala a small town situated on the edge of the park. Here we found our campsite for the weekend. A lush green empty field soon became our base camp. Putting up the tents is always fun especially when the wind is blowing! After pitching three tents and a gazebo it was time for a cup of warming tea. The weather wasn't freezing cold but it certainly wasn't the warmest, that evening we headed to the bar for food and drink... Maybe a bit too much drink! For an activity while being away we were all in hope that the wind would drop and Zip World would be ... read more

Thursday 23 July 2015 Weather watching in Britain must be the most popular past time. It is certainly the favourite conversation piece. The last day or two has proved this to be true. A brief glance out of the window gave promise of a fine day. Our host offered to provide an early breakfast so we could get on the road for our much anticipated visit to Mt Snowdon, the highest mountain in England and Wales. The forty minute drive to Llanberis, our starting point, was uneventful except for the few spots of rain forecast to fall at 10:00 am. How good are the UK Meteorologists? We hope they are not that good because there is another shower forecast at 4:00 pm. We arrive at destination, park in a large carpark controlled by the nearby hotel, ... read more

Gwyndy is a lovely place in North Wales on the slopes of Mount Snowdonia. It's a cottage that is the home of Granphy and Nanny Mary. Gwyndy is an oasis of green half way up a hill that attracts all sorts of local wildlife. There are free range ducks and hens which supply eggs to an eager local population. Currently the dry stone walls are being rebuilt. You can see all the way past Anglesey on a fine day. During the eighties the original cottage (living/kitchen, barn, hayloft, plus two small rooms) was rescued and added on to to make a comfortable residence. The original rescuers planned a market garden but at the time there weren't enough hedges to shelter the garden and they soon moved on to other employment. Two minutes down the track is ... read more

Finally we have a home.Suzy who has been our home for the past 5 weeks is now parked up at Teversal caravan club site for two weeks whilst we settle in to our new home and sort out a space to park her. We managed a discount for leaving her there. We would have liked to have left her there over Christmas but apparently the site is full from Christmas Eve until after NewYear. Things became somewhat hectic over the last week. A trip to the solicitors to sign the contracts, finding out that we cannot park a caravan nor a house on wheels in front of the garage. Not that we could have as it is on a slope and is quite short compared to the drive we had in our last home. And then the ... read more

Friday August 16,2013 Dolgellau(pronounced: Dol-Geth-Lai) We arrived in Porthmadog around 2:25 pm and Sally & I walked the dogs for a bit. Later we sat outside a Fish & Chips-Take Away Shop and had some lunch. Yum! After lunch....Sally and I wondered around the town and looked in some shops. Sally remembers coming here to stay with her grandparents on her mom's side(Jill's parents). Lovely and cute town and we were there for an hour and 15 minutes. It was time to head off to our next town and to catch up with some of Sally's relatives. Sally, The Dogs and I arrive at a really nice town called Dolgellau around 3:30 pm. We met up with cousin Jenny and aunt Eileen who is also 89 years old. We caught up on news in the local ... read more

Saturday August 17,2013 (Outskirts of Dolgellau) I awoke to an overcast, drizzly and windy day in North Wales....in the middle of nowhere. Hey.....it's an adventure! Around 9:45/9:50....Sally and I drove out of the cousin's driveway and said "goodbye" to the cows. We headed towards town to do some shopping before meeting up with Jenny and Eileen. Here's the thing...there was some kind of accident that happened in town and a RAF Yellow Rescue Helicopter came and helped a injured person get to the awaiting ambulance. Of course..everyone who had assembled in the parking lot had thought that the pilot would be:Prince William. Alas...no but it was pretty dramatic the way the helicopter had disturbed the trees and then took off to the skies above. We had about 30 minutes of shopping before we would need to ... read more

Friday August 16,2013 Northern Wales Blog#12 Part 1 Note:Due to staying the night in the driveway of a relative and on the outskirts of Dolgellau in Northern Wales......there was no Internet or Wi-Fi. I needed to wait! I wrote it down on paper. ******************************************************************************** Anglesey : Awoke to blue skies and sunny skies in the morning at Rosind's house. Many folks in the town of Llangefni know the "Rabbit Lady" as Mrs.Easter. After Breakfast, tea and shower...............Sally and I got the mobile home reorganized again. At around 11:15 am.....said goodbye to Rosalind and her bunnies. Sally and I set off on another adventure in Northern Wales. Sally and I stopped at a rare find in the middle of nowhere. A Science and Stone museum which had been there for 42 years. We both got out of ... read more
