I woke up a tad earlier than I had planned to this morning, so I got off to an early start. My hostel had a complimentary breakfast which included cereal, toast, and coffee. Score! After I ate my toast, I headed out to go find the tram that would take me up to the Orme Mines. I knew the tram started at 10, so I arrived a little before 10. When I got there, the gate was closed and people were waiting. They were filming some television show on the tram and it wouldn’t open until 10:30. I wish I would have known before hand so I wouldn’t have wasted time just waiting. A lot of people were unhappy about it and left. I ended up finding out later that it was a kids show called ... read more

Last night at my hostel I met a girl who was graduating the next day from Cardiff University. She is from Salisbury, near Stonehenge, and studied for a year in Wyoming. She has a degree in geology and wants to work with fuel. We talked about all the differences between America and England. She was pretty cool, but her friends were also in the same room. They were out celebrating and came back really late and got up super early to get ready for graduation day. We ate breakfast together and then I was on my way to the train station. I had to get off at Chester and get on a different train to my final stop, Llandudno. The Britrail pass has been really awesome so far. I am a little relieved because if I ... read more

I really can't figure out how long I've been awake. The confusion is over the fact that when I got to London at 8 it was 12 AM back in Denver - so really another day was starting right when another was ending. But I made the most of it, breezed through Heathrow, got down to Paddington Station in London, and then set off for the countryside of Warwickshire. I oddly enough stopped right at Oxford - where I should be back to in a couple of months. Ultimately, I went to Warwick Castle, probably the best castle in all of England. It really is a giant place, and I think is the prettiest castle I've ever been in. Everything is incredibly sumptuous and over the top. I didn't last as long as I wanted to ... read more

Hello everyone..hope you're all well! Once again I've been off travelling...but shockingly enough it was actually in the UK still! Last week I travelled up with my brother to Newcastle-under-Lyme, where he has a student house, and we then made many excursions to many locations across the area. On the Monday, we made the trip to North Wales, where we stopped at the small town of Conwy, visiting the remains of the Castle, the city walls, and the portside (where the smallest house in Great Britain is located), giving us some traditional Welsh heritage. Afterwards we carried on further into the country, crossing the Menai Straits onto Anglesey, where there were some stunning views of not only the strait and the bridges crossing it, but also of Snowdonia. We then arrived at the town of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch ... read more

Welcome to Llandudno ! As the UK was embracing its first days of warm weather in early June, I decided to visit a place which I knew was famous for its Victorian festival early May each year, but which was nothing but a name on a map as far as I was concerned, and was I in for a pleasant surprise indeed ! Llandudno is a beautiful Victorian seaside resort located in the Conwy County of Wales, and offers amongst its many charms a breathtaking Promenade overlooking the sea and the beaches located between the Great Orme and the Little Orme. Elegant buildings so representative of the Victorian and Edwardian area are everywhere to enjoy, and the crown jewel certainly is the majestic Grand Hotel overlooking the pier. The beaches were boasting with life and activity ... read more

Where does time go to? One minute its the night before Christmas and then before you can blink your eyes Christmas has gone and its Boxing Day. The turkey and trimmings all eaten, the decorations feel as if they have been up for years and the presents and cards opened. Only 364 days to the next Christmas and it will soon be here. The weather has been distinctly unseasonal, rain, rain and more rain followed by frost and then a return to more torrential rain. We have spent the holiday reading blogs about sunnier climes and feeling envious of those who are free to take their motorhomes abroad for the festive season. The nearest we have got to Christmas abroad is reading about it and thinking what we would do to celebrated the holidays if we were ... read more

Llandudno We were told that breakfast would be provided between 9 and 10 at weekends at Flockton Villa Hotel. The Flocken Villa stands on Goddaeth Street, a convenient location both for the town centre and coastline. It was rather chilly, cloudy and windy in Llandudno on Sunday morning. We walked on the pier, and popped in several souvenir shops. The tidal waves were quite high and choppy around Llandudno. Great Orme While walking on the pier, we decided to go to Great Orme. The tram station was situated among the residential houses. I was interested in the signposts in Welsh and English, and asked Mark whether he can pronounce letters as well as English. The tram arrived at the station on time. The cars appeared typically Victorian, and it matched with the buildings in Llandudno. After ... read more

We remembered seeing a very picturesque castle from Llandudno Junction station on 19 April and 21 April. We got on the same bus as we visited Bodnant Garden on Monday. We got off at Conwy Railway station. We walked on the City Wall to the castle. It was thrilling to see the historic town and azure coloured estuary beyond. Conwy Castle After paying for the admission fees, we entered the castle from West Barbican. We walked past Outer Ward, and climbed to the Upper floor. We looked at the ruined rooms, riverside with fishing bots, railway, and Conwy town, etc from Walkway. Some towers were closed for being under construction on 22 April. We climbed on the spiral steps to the top of King's Tower. We overlooked the Suspension Bridge, riverside, Conwy town, countryside, and saw ... read more

Mark found the bus timetable between Llandudno and Bodnant Garden from the Internet. We thus visited there on Monday, 21 April. There were a lot of shops and some galleries around the entrance area. Having entered the garden, myriads of flowers, e.g. rhodondendrons, magnolias, cherry blossoms, camellias, azaleas, and daffodils were smiling for us. It was just perfect time for us to view those spring flowering shrubs and plants, which were about to bloom fully. We explored the formal gardens around the house, consisting of 5 terraced gardens, ponds, Italian sculptures, pergolas, and the Round Garden with fountain and herbs in the morning. We also walked down to the riverside and the Old Mill. We saw many charming sights, e.g. water streams, red, pink, purple, and orange coloured azaleas and rhodondendrons, tree ferns, and lofty ... read more
