We are just about to turn in to sleep on our third night of our first cruise. Were well settled in aboard now and majorly excited about the prospect of visiting new countries and new cultures. Tomorrow we arrive in Reijavik, Iceland. Weve just converted 65 British Pounds to 9500 Icelandic KroneFor now, we are northwest of the coast of Ireland. The sea here is near 9000 feet deep. The sun has just set around 10.30pm. It will rise tomorrow around 3am. Not that we will be bothered by this in our dark windowless interior stateroom. Nat and I have enjoyed our start to this cruise, including the last two full days at sea. Both days were spent with a similar itinery. Wake around 9, breakfast, a wander, a game of Scrabble on the top deck, lunch, 40 minutes at gym, a show, dinner around 8, and sleep around 11.30. Breakfast and lunch have varied between a formal ala carte restaraunt, and buffet. Our dinner is booked on the same table, nightly at 8pm. Its a table for 8, right by the window. Our main company, present on each of the three nights is Stephen and Irene of Northern
Ireland. Weve met Brady and Marie of Malta just the once, and a lovely Indian couple from the UK. Near all food on the ship is free, and extremely delicious. Each night at dinner is different and has a different theme. Last was Saffron, tonight was Italian. Weve been having wine at dinner at a cost, but thats all weve paid for aside from shore excursions. Well, aside from some nice earrings for Natalie. Afterall, our second night was a formal dress code, and she had to look her finest. Each night, there are different themes, dress codes and events. The first night our entertainment was a magic show. Yesterday I competed in a football five a side tournament. My team drew 0-0 and 1-1, and I notched our only goal. The commentator dubbed me Gareth Bale, which hurt as an Arsenal fan. Theres still a few more tournaments to ge held. Maybe ill give table tennis a go at some point. Tonight we attended an ice skating art show which was spectacular indeed. With so much food on offer Nat and I have made a pact to fully utilise the gym facilities. Weve been all three days so far. No drinks
are allowed without gym. Weve been enjoying wine with dinner, the quality of food and dining experience just demands it. Its been delicious wine too.Weve booked a couple shore excursions. The blue lagoon, Trollstigen or the 'path of the trolls', and the great Atlantic Road. Tomorrow, weve booked a day trip with a private company in Iceland. Our ship docks at 11, and as of 12.30 we will be on our tour bound for Gullfoss waterfall and a nearby volcanic Geysir. Whilst it was warm in Southampton, its got colder and wetter every hour since our departure. This afternoon its been freezing, drizzling and highly misty. Visibility is next to nothing. We will be calling on our good fortune with weather tomorrow when we head to Gullfoss. Iv been looking forward to Scandinavian and Nordic culture for a long time. Heres to the next step of our great adventure.
