Happy Monday readers!
It's almost the end of year 2014 which means you should be thinking about your New Years resolutions......perhaps my blogs have inspired you to make 2015 a year to travel to Europe 😊 My resolution in 2015 just might be to travel back to Europe.....there simply wasn't enough time in 3 months. Jennie and I are currently on a 5 hour train ride from Waverley station in Edinburgh to Kings Cross in London. The view on this train ride is magnificent.....Scotland's seaside to my left and green valleys and rolling hills to my right, and in front of my a double chocolate chunk cookie from Ben's cookie shop in Edinburgh. We spent our days in Edinburgh between walking tours, hiking, and cooking low cost food in the hostel. Our hostel was in perfect walking location of most sightseeing go to's, the only down side was no elevator to bring our heavy baggage up 4 or 5 flights of stairs. While in Edinburgh we took a historical free walking tour in which we learned plenty of information on the dark side of Edinburgh....such as how they used to kill people in past centuries, and about the corpse stealers. It
was a big problem, people taking corpses from the graves and selling them. They solved this problem by putting cages over the graves to protect the bodies. The brighter part of the tour was seeing the 'original' Hogwarts, the school which inspired J.K. Rowling for The Harry Potter books. This school was also located next to the graveyard which she took some names for the characters in the books. We also walked past Abbey Road which was the inspiration for 'diagon alleY.' Our tour guide was awesome, and worked for 'free' plus tips. The city of Edinburgh is beautiful, and absolutely a place to visit if you'd like to get in shape. The steep streets and stairs in the city are never ending. Especially the Jacobs ladder stairs...each step is a surprise whether it will be narrow, flat, diagonal....! We spent Sunday going on the hike most tourists do while visiting the city....Arthur's seat. One of the beauties about traveling is knowing that you can make friends everywhere you go because so many other people are in the same position as you.....travelers. Jennie and I aren't solo travelers but we make a good team to make traveling friends wherever we
go. We went on the hike with our hostel mates, a girl from France, a girl from China, and a girl from Texas. The hike was challenging....so challenging that it perhaps drives people to fib to us about the distance left in the hike. Each time time we asked, we got a different answer.....just 20 more minutes! 20 more feet! Oh, you still have a whole other mountain after this one! In hike entertainment I suppose ; ) it was a steep hike and took just over an hour. It was beautiful views, windy views. We finished our Sunday with a family style meal in the hostel with our bunk mates 😊
We are spending the next four days in London and than we will be on our way home, hard to believe! enjoy the final days of 2014 my friends and family....I know we will 😊
