Edinburgh
From the castle looking over the town and the North Sea I found out last Tuesday that I need to go to London for meetings which were for Wednesday and Thursday. Luckily there is a direct flight from Waterford to Luton Airport in London. This is so much easier than having to drive across Ireland to fly out. I flew out early Wednesday morning from the tiny Waterford Airport. The airport consists of 1 gate. My short/long term parking spot was 50 feet from the door. All they have is turbo props that hold about 30 people.
I arrived in London and took the subway (the Tube) to my meeting. I spent the rest of Wednesday in meetings and didn’t finish until later Wednesday evening. After that I had a ton of work to do so I didn’t have time to sightsee. I’ve been to London a few times so I was not totally heartbroken. All day Thursday meetings as well 😞 I got back into Waterford late Thursday evening.
Friday I worked half a day then drove to Dublin to fly to Scotland. The drive to Dublin was easy and uneventful. No sheep or tractors this trip! In fact I made such good time to Dublin, I had time
Edinburgh #3
Middle of the city to go downtown to have a quick lunch. I flew from Dublin to Glasgow Friday evening. My ultimate destination was Edinburgh but flying to Glasgow was so much cheaper. I took ScotRail from Glasgow to Edinburgh late Friday night and arrived in Edinburgh around 12:30 am. I was so impressed with Edinburgh!!
My hotel was in the center of town and right across from the train station. The whole city is built on large granite rocks so everything is on cliffs. Of course this all overlooks the North Sea which was amazing. I bought a 24 double decker tour bus ticket so I toured the city on the bus with a tour guide.
I toured the big castle for a few hours and saw the Scottish Crown Jewels. During the afternoon I toured the National Royal Museum and then the Hollyrood palace. This is where Mary Queen of Scots lived and now it is the Scottish palace where Queen Elizabeth stays when she is in town. We really need a big castle in Kansas City. We would attract so many tourist that would spend good money. This would also coincide with my goal to be King.
I went
on a Ghost and Torture tour in the city underground caves which was pretty neat. Scared the hell out of a lot of people which I thought was pretty funny. After seeing the Vodoo tours in New Orleans I see how much they do it for the money and make up stuff as they go. The flashlight “conveniently” went out in the caves so we were standing there in pitch blackness. People were screaming, I was laughing. I can only imagine doing that in the states - we would have a riot going on. People would sue because they were too scared :0
Sunday morning I took the early train to Glasgow so I could see the city a little bit. Glasgow is nice but no where near the level of Edinburgh. I flew back to Dublin Sunday evening then made it back to Waterford Sunday night. Nothing eventful is happening this week - Thank God!
This weekend is the annual festival in Waterford. It is called Spraoi and it is supposed to be a blast. They close all the streets and everyone just walks around and drinks. This sounds promising.
Next weekend is my last weekend
getaway which is supposed to be to Barcelona. My travel agent informed me that it is going to cost be about $1000 that weekend for hotel and airfare. As much as I wanted to see Barcelona, I don’t want to pay that much for a day and a half. So, instead I left it up to my travel agent to find my next destination. So far she has found awesome hotels and airfare so I trust her to surprise me. In fact I told her to just book it and tell me what it is after she books it. So next weekend I’m going to……………….Oslo, Norway! How random.
If anyone has been to Norway, let me know. Any suggestions would be good 😊 All I know is it is the world’s most expensive city. They speak Norwegian and they have Fjords.
Hope all is well in the states. As of today I only have 15 days left before I come home for my vacation!
Cheers!

King?
How does building a castle in KC coincide with your desire to be king? Not seeing the correlation.
