Today we went on a 12 hour Loch Ness and the Highlands tour! The tour was set to be from 8am-8pm, the longest bus day tour in Europe, but we ended up arriving back in Edinburgh at 9:30pm. Among other places, we visited Ben Nevis, Glen Coe, Fort Augustus (where we hung out with the Loch Ness monster) and Fort William. We travelled 600km, but it didn’t feel like it because we had a hilarious tour guide (one thing I’ve noticed about Scottish people is they’ve all got the best sense of humour). Here’s a few things we learnt from him-

1- The kilt is called a kilt because the last person who called it a skirt was killed
2- it’s fine to put a bit of water in your whiskey, but under no circumstances should you ever put Coca Cola in it (they will kick you out of the country) and
3- when Andy Murray wins he’s English and when he loses he’s Scottish

At the start of the tour the guide told us we may be late coming home, and an American tourist barked about how she had a flight to catch at 9:45pm (why you’d book a flight scheduled less than two hours after finishing a 12 hour bus tour I have no idea) so on the way back we had to stop at the airport for her. That was at 9:10pm. I suppose we’ll never know if she made it.

We hopped off the bus at 9:30pm and made our way back to the bnb, praying there would be some food in the fridge. We were so excited to walk in and find a note on the door saying “we’ve left some vegan Mac and cheese on the stove for you”. Bless Bec and Taylor! We then stayed up til 2am playing cards with them, time for bed!
