Well, I've been talking about it for months, thinking about it, backing away, researching, and backing off again, but now I've bitten the bullet and committed! I fly from Edinburgh to Heathrow on Friday 5th june, then on to Toronto later that morning, arriving 1405 local time. The following day I return to Pearson Int Airport to pick up my Grand Jeep Cherokee, then set off on my round trip. The plan is to drive to Chicago Il., probably in a day, then pick up the beginning of the old Route 66 for Santa Monica. I would hope to stick to the old Route 66 as much as possible., hopefully covering it in a fortnight (or so), then a fast burn up the West Coast to Vancouver, then east again to Toronto via a family gathering ... read more

Stepping outside early this morning to get some milk for our in-room breakfast the weather didn’t look too good but amazing what a difference an hour makes. Today we are heading north of the English border into Scotland. We ventured into the town of Berwick-upon-Tweed and found a great little spot beside the river to take a photo of the Royal Bridge, a fabulous railway bridge with 28 arches. While we were deciding on the best vantage point a local came along and we had a great chat about the city, the timetable of the next train, and a bit of history. One piece of history, which accounts for the accents in the area, is the border changed places thirteen times. The trains were on time and we headed north. We left the A1 and meandered ... read more

7 weeks have passed so quickly. After some very emotional goodbyes I'm finally on my way. I thought I'd take it easy today!! HA. I rode from Perth to Retford in Nottinghamshire, and a fairly uneventful journey. Although I did end up driving through Leeds, just because OK!! lol. Dover bound in the morning. ... read more

Well Well Well......... How on earth did that happen? One week to go?? The time has passed so quickly that it is quite frankly scary. The last couple of weeks, as you can imagine, have been a whirlwind of black bags and boxes, paperwork and dilemas. What to keep? What to bin? Anyway, I think I'm making headway now. Its also been full of laughs and tears. I played my last pipeband competition with Dysart and Dundonald at Cowal Games on Saturday. What a fantastic group of people who will never quite appreciate what they have been to and done for me over the last 8 months. On a practical note, I have now got good travel insurance, euro card is sorted, ferry is booked as is my camping for my 'Scottish Weekend' in Alden Biesen. ... read more

Hi Folks As you can see I'm still in Perth, but not for much longer. The plan is starting to come together quite nicely now. And 3 weeks today I will be in Belgium. I am managing to sell all of my worldly belongings, and weather permitting on Sunday will go to a bootsale to sell more. I am now the proud owner of a Kawasaki ZZR 600 motorbike :) insured and ready to collect this weekend. I also am preparing for the camping experience and have a new tent, sleeping bag, rucksack and varies bits and bobs that I will need. I still need to get leathers for my bike, travel insurance and sort out a euro travel card but I have done my homework on these and it is going to be a 30 ... read more

Written on 17th July 2011 - Just one week after the decision was made. So Why? Why give up my flat and sell all of my possessions to buy a motorbike and travel?? Quite a good question that one. For years now I have worked so so hard to get to where I am. I have a responsible job, a degree and most of the material objects that i need to make life a little easier. The one thing I don't have is the joy and zest for life that I used to have......... the desire, the drive, the focus. The past year has been a difficult one. In June 2010 My Mum was diagnosed with Cancer at the extremely young age of 58. In September 2010 I made the decision that my Mum needed me ... read more

Don't you hate it when you have dirty fingernails? There's something about the dirt that lies in the nail bed, its not clean dirt, not by any means, its the dirtiest of dirt, filthy even and it's under your nails. Its not a nice feeling, to have dirt under you nails. However it is a really great feeling to know that you have the freedom to travel. It is also a really great feeling when you know that your destination is somewhere you've always known you'd go, no matter what. The best part? I was going there with my parents, yep mum and dad were coming too. We were off to Scotland, and how excited I was. Scotland, as it seems most other places, had always been on my list. Whether it was because of the ... read more

Oli sateinen paiva. Paatin olla toisen yon majapaikassa, jotta aikaa ei tuhraantuisi majapaikan etsintaan. Ajoin ensin itaan Abroathin rantakaupunkiin, sitten sisamaahan Forfariin. Satoi. Pikkutiet saivat riittaa, joten jatkoin moottoritietaa Perthiin asti. Perthissa olikin poutapaiva. Yoksi ajoin takaisin Dundeehen. Kavin katsomassa kaupunkia maen paalta, Dundee Law, ja poikkesin viela keskustassa jalkiruualla. Auton sai illalla parkkiin helposti.
