We started off March with a bang. Saturday afternoon we took the bus down to one of our favorite watering holes in Glasgow, McSorleys. It’s a great little pub that welcomes our wee one. We were pleasantly surprised when we walked in to find a six-man New Orleans style jazz band ripping it up in a packed house. It wasn’t what we expected to find at 2:00 on a Saturday afternoon. Immediately upon entering we were greeted by two seniors dancing who were so intoxicated they could barely stand up and at one point the woman fell on the floor while dancing. We settled into a booth and enjoyed the music. Camille got her dancing feet on and danced for the next couple of hours. She absolutely loved the music and the musicians hammed it up quite a bit for her. She was a big hit, so big in fact, that people started giving her money. She would come running up to us with one-pound coins smiling and pointing out who had just given her the most recent booty. One customer (close to 80 years old) even bought me a pint, albeit after wrapping his hands around my neck and telling
me “you’re gonna have to be tough if you’re gonna make it in Glasgow.” He was cut off after this and asked to leave the bar. He then asked me to help him put on his jacket. I think you’re getting the picture. After spending some time here and meeting some very “colorful” characters, we learned that many of the pubs in the area host live music on Saturday afternoons. So between Camille dancing and my new talents as a doorman, I think we have found a way to go out on the cheap on those rainy Saturday afternoons.
Today was Mothering Day, the UK version of Mother’s Day. Camille and I got up early and got Elizabeth some flowers, made her a fantastic breakfast and let her have a lie in. Camille then woke her up later in the morning with flowers and the gift she had made at nursery school. She was very sweet. After breakfast, we planted some seeds we had been soaking. Camille recently got a book out from the library about a couple of beavers that plant beans and watch the plants grow. Camille wanted to do this as well, so today was the
The Broadbent Gene!
She has the inherited the Broadbent Gene. We all love to bite our tongue while hard at work! big day that we took our soaked beans and planted them. After this we had some fun on the monkey slide over at the park and took a family walk. Lastly, we wrapped up the day with Camille’s first bubble bath.
Wednesday we are off to Belfast, Ireland for a long weekend. I’ll be visiting some schools, meeting up with other teachers on exchange, sightseeing and attending our first ceilidh. We are really looking forward to this and have big plans of packing a lot in over a short time.
I hope you enjoy the pictures and be sure to check out the videos!
