Headed off after the football disappointment and made good time getting to Stafford motorway services. Bedded down by 2am and awoke fresh at 7 ready to go. The journey up was bearable and we stopped off for lunch in Penrith and found a nice Thai doing lunchtime specials. We set off after lunch and got to our campsite at the base of Loch Lomond in Balloch about 4pm. We've been for a bike ride and had fresh wild sea bass for dinner. looking forward to getting to Fort William tomorrow when the adventure really begins.... read more

A Trip to Loch Lomond Last week, a couple of friends and I went up to Loch Lomond, but I've just started to keep this journal so I have some catching up to do. It was my first trip outside of Edinburgh since arriving in January and although tiring and (ultimately) very wet, it was a lot of fun and I can't wait to continue my exploration of Scotland. Lochs and Loch Lomond A Loch is either a lake or a sea inlet and Scotland has many of them. Loch Lomond is Scotland's largest Loch by surface area (although Loch Ness is the largest by volume), measuring 24 miles in length. Loch Lomond was written about in the song, Loch Lomond. Heya everyone... this is basically just a quick message from me to let you know that I am very sorry but i happen to be one of the worlds worst travel bloggers. i know its been a while since i wrote, and i think that it will be a while too when i can write again as i only have 7 minutes remaining on this computer. at any rate, i can tell you all of the interesting things that have happened to me on my next blog... in Ireland. or maybe not... depending when i can get some reasonably priced internet usage. really... it is absurd how much things are here. things are fine though, mom and dad got in to edinburgh on thursday of last week. to tell you the short story, we hung out ... read more

Well here it is...our return to the real world. Adam has now started work at Leeds University and is loving being back in the lab. His work colleagues are very friendly and have been welcoming which has been a lovely bonus. Meanwhile, I myself have started work too! After a total of seven sleeps in Leeds. I’ve whisked myself off to Scotland to take a six week locum in an acute stroke unit. I’m working at a small district hospital in Alexandria which is 40 minutes west of Glasgow. I must confess it is quite sobering to be returning to work after the amazing break we’ve had, not to mention trying to muddle my way through a foreign health system!
