Today was travel day again... as is tomorrow... but we managed to find some pretty cool things along the way. We left Stornoway this morning and traveled to Tarbert to catch the ferry to the Isle of Skye. Since we had time to kill we thought we'd check out a bit of south Harris. We first found the Golden road. So named, not because of its beauty, but by the stupid amount it cost to build it. It stretches along the east east coast of south Harris through the various little villages. We found it just to check out a Harris tweed shop that was ok but nothing spectacular. The road is one car wide just like many other roads we've encountered, only this one undulated a lot so we you never really knew if someone was coming over the hill. After that we went to some more sandy white beaches. Better than Lewis beaches by far; they stretch for miles. They say if it was 10 degrees warmer here, Florida wouldn't know what hit it (come on global warming). After the beach we went back to Tarbert and shopped around. Amazing how many times you can go into the same store when you have 2 hours to kill and there is only 3 stores. After that it was off to Skye where we are staying just outside of the biggest town on the island called Portree. The B&B is an old mansion. Our room looks over the town; too bad we're not staying longer.
