Hello everyone. I am at the Backpackers right now looking for a place to stay. Also might have found a car. The weather is getting "better" here, warming up a bit. Just some more details on my flight that I thought you might find funny. I got there at 530 for a 830 flight, and there was already a HUGE line. At this point they only had 1 Teller on. It took almost 45min before they added more. I didn't get to the counter till 720, and when I did the girl walking around reminded the teller that it was 40 pounds for ski equipment. I kindly told the tell that that is not what Canadian Affair said (free for 10kg). Then she says ok please put your bags on the scale, I do and she ... read more

Hello all. So I have finally arrived in Scotland. We were in at 10pm Friday however there were 3 transatlantic flights arriving at the same time, so baggage took 2hrs to pick up. By that time there was no bus/ train up to Fort William. I am currently sitting in a Holiday Inn in Glasgow waiting for the bus up north. I should arrive around 6pm and already have my room booked for the next few nights. New number is 07909123825. for those at home, if you want to talk to me email me a time and I will call you as its pretty cheap from my phone. Will update when I have gotten settled. Tuesday was Gran’s Birthday and we went to Loch Ness. It was a 2 ½ hour drive said to be one of the 5 best drives in the world. It went through past really high mountains and lots of lochs. When we arrived at Loch Ness we hopped on a cruise that would take us through the loch. We learned that Loch Ness holds more water than all the other water in Great Brittan put together! We took a picture of Nessie and enjoyed watching the sonar radar for him. We also got to see a different kind of loch. This kind of loch moves boats up a hill by filling up different parts of the loch. It was another great day in Scotland. By Tom ... read more

Fort William to Isle of Skye We woke up the next day in our lovely B&B in Fort William and saw the lovely view that it had to offer. All the effort getting there was worth while. We trudged downstairs where the owner gave us breakfast and we discussed our plans for the day - not with the owner, she went off to her part of the house with her husband, after sticking around for a quick chat. As far as we remember the trip from Fort William to Isle of Skye involved a lot of stopping for coffee, tea and hot chocolate with ham, tomato and cheese sandwiches (all out of the back of the car of course) and taking photos of the beautiful Scottish scenery. Not far from Fort William we stopped at a ... read more

At eight a clock on the 8th of july we went down "Neptuns staircase", it's a row of eight locks. When we arrived at the harbor at the bottom of the locks, Jørgen and Arne changed the engine oil. After that we longed for some food since we hadn't even eaten breakfast yet. We tok a bus towards the town centrum, and as we sat looking out of the bus window we suddenly saw something that looked like a destillery and jumped off. We hoped it was ben nevis, but it wasn´t, may have been an old distillery, but now a guesthouse. We had some breakfast at a cafeteria close by, and while sitting there looking up at the Ben nevis Mountain, Olav were on top of it, sending us a text-message wondering if we could ... read more

As we are moving again today, we packed up after breakfast and said goodbye to Uig, leaving with the sun shinning on the bay. Just down the road I stopped and took photos of long haired Scottish cattle that we have passed several times, but never yet stopped for. When he combs his hair across, Benjamin looks just like one of them ! We stopped in the small town not far along the road to do some souvenir shopping, as we still have some family to buy things for. Shortly after this, our gps tried to point us up a smaller road and we quickly realized it was trying to take us to a ferry. Though this would be a quicker route to the town of Glenfinnan where we are heading, we decided we would take ... read more

West Highland Way 6th-15th June, 2009 The UK has some amazing long distance walks and this is just one of them. I first discovered part of the trail when I stayed in Fort William in 2006 to climb Ben Nevis. Bern, Elizabeth and I took an early flight from London to Glasgow. From the airport we took a bus to Queen Street train station in the centre of Glasgow and then it was only a 20 minute train journey to the start of the walk. Milngavie to Drymen - 19km (Camp overnight at Easter Drumquhassle Farm) First of all we were going to have to start learning how to pronunciate all the Scottish names! Milngavie is pronounced 'Mul-guy' and I'm glad we learnt that when we were listening to the announcements at the train station! The ... read more

Nobody told us about the climb out of Kinlochleven!!! I suppose common sense told you that after descending so far down and being surrounded by mountains - there was only one way out. But it was still a shock first thing in the morning. We were all huffing and puffing by the time we got to the top to look behind us at Kinlochleven and the river. The rain was persistent all day and we were literally walking through running water. We were all prepared with our waterproofs and so it wasn't a real problem, especially as we knew this was our last day of walking and we would soon be at Heather and Nicks to chill for a couple of days. The rain stopped for awhile as we approached a small brook and John decided ... read more
